"SCT Due F4 AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT JONES ear Dr. Jones. We are students at the Law Center who, like hundreds, perhaps thousands of other University students, were refused tickets to the Notre Dame - USC game. As did the other students, we paid for and received an ac tivities fee card in accordance with the requirements imposed by the University. Given the fact that the University makes mandatory the payment of an activities fee by all full-time students, it is our con tention that these students should have priority over all other members of the public to exercise their right to appear at or par ticipate in any of those activities for which they have been forced to pay. The University itself seems to recognize this position. We quote from the official university hand book, the Carolina Community, where it is stated without qualification on page 28 under the subheading "Student Ticket In formation," point 6: "Each student may pick up two tickets by presenting his ID card and fee receipt plus one other ID card and fee receipt."Certainly the University expects the students to abide by and uphold the rules and regulations stated in the student handbook. Don't the students have a corresponding right to expect the ELI icket S cr Revi University to comply with the representations made by it in that same handbook? We believe that in the interests of fairness and equity, the University should, at least, immediately at tempt to make amends by refunding to all affected students the proportional share of their activities fee which was represented by the Notre Dame game. In an effort to insure that this situation does not recur, we believe the University should either make an immediate public guarantee that all full-time students desiring to attend athletic functions should be given preferential status to do so, or, in the alternative, the remaining Page 4 P Page Four is an open column for any member of the Carolina Community, be it students, faculty, administration or staff who believes he has a subject that would be of interest to The Gamecock's readers.
