Biddies For Thin BY BOB ODOM Sports Writer The Carolina junior varsity erupted for a third quarter touch down and then overcame a couple of late offensive turnovers to defeat arch-rival Clemson junior varsity 14-10 at Death Valley Friday afternoon. The Biddies winning tally came when halfback Bobby Simpson capped a 70-yard drive by racing in from one yard out. Butch Crosson added the extra point and Carolina had all it needed for the victory. The winning touchdown was set up by the running of quarterback Ron Bass and halfback Clarence Williams. For the game Bass gained 103 yards in 40 attempts while Williams ran for 51 in 11 tries. Clemson's first opportunity came when defensive back Steve Ferdon recovered a fumble by Williams at the Carolina seven. The Cubs were unable to score as the .Biddies defense pushed them back to the 14-yard line. The big play came when defensive back Brice Wilson broke up quarterback Rut Livingston's pass in the end zone. The Cubs got their second try when defensive back Steve Kelly broke through the Biddies of fensive line to block a punt with only 34 seconds left in the game. Livingston raced 26 yards for their first score and then with only four seconds in the half, Mark Freeburg kicked a 35-yard field goal, which was set up when Tommy Ducworth intercepted a Scott Curtis pass. Freshman coach Bob Mauro was very pleased with the Biddies performance. "We made a lot of mistakes that just about killed us, but wben our kids had to come through theydid,"Mauro said. "I thought that Clemson did a real good job of stopping our running game. They were a very well prepared team."
