Members Say R< Union I BY BETTY WOODRUFF Gamecock Staff Writer Although the University Union's withdrawal from the Homecoming Coor dinating Committee caused some initial confusion, Millory Merchant, com mittee chairman, said everything is "in good shape now as far as plan ning goes." "The Union, represented by Alan Rosenblum, was going to plan everything for the students," Merchant said. "But they got started on it and couldn't finish." Other committee members said Rosenblum appeared at a committee meeting and said he had too many other activities and did not have the time to devote to Homecoming. They had good ideas, but they didn't understand the process of putting an idea into operation." "At first this committee tried to plan the whole thing and tell other organizations what to do. They wanted to have events every day of the week," he said. They all seemed to think the Union should do it all but the Union likes to plan its own activities. We have people trained in programming and we plan our events sometimes almost a year in advance. We didn't have the funds, or people to commit ourselves to g to plan everything for got started on it and cou something like this with such short planning." Rosenblum suggested that the real problem was an "inability to com municate. A lot of people tried hard, but they couldn't get it together. We were afraid the students would be left out of Homecoming completely, but the Union did come through and plan some events on the street for us Saturday. "The Women's . Pop Ensemble, University Players and flower sellers will be performing on Green Street and a Children's Art Show will be exhibited." "Once the Coordinating Committee got their role as coordinators straight, we all understood each other a lot better." Siano said.
