Brunton/ Parkin.g c The parking lot behnd the physical education center, which has accomodated approximately 150 student cars since the beginning of the semester, will be closed f6r construction as of today, the division of business affairs announced, and playing field "A" willl be opened for student parking. .In a memo to the student-faculty parking committee, Harold Brunton, business affairs vice president, said the lot would be closed because "Construction on the addition to the PE center is due to get underway next week, which means that the approximately 150 cars that have been using this lot will have to park elsewhere." The memo went on to say "We had hoped to have the expansion ol the Bates House parking lol finished by this time, which would have accomodated the displaced cars. Unfortunately, this project along with Bates House West, iE running several months behint schedule. After considering the limited alter natives, we have decided to use playing field "A" (south of the Blossom Street garage) tem porarily for student parking. We estimate that approximately 240 cars will be able to park in this area, which should offer some very much needed relief. Our plan is to use the field substantially in its present state with the idea that if rain creates muddy areas, we will add sand at that time." Brunton also pointed out in the memo that: --the Blossom Street garage ad dition is underway and hopefully will be ready for the spring semester. --the Wheat Street parking area is not under construction and should result in increasing student spaces from 75 tQ 100. --the corner of Senate and Hen derson streets is being graded and should be ready for parking in a relatively short time. --Engineers have been authorized to proceed with plans for con structing. major parking garage in i the Pickens-Pendleton area. 922-24 MAIN STREET (NEXT TO DAIRY BAR) S ~-- BY THE GLASS, N EISER AND and M ILY NOON TO LOSED SUNDA P.E.
