Hous1 BY STEVE PARKER Sports Editor Carolina's veer offense will meet its maker Friday nighl when the Gamecocks fac( Houston Coach Bill Yeoman, the innovator of the veer of fense, and his 16th-ranked Cougars. The USC veer, which con pletely overwhelmed Georgia Tech in a stunning season opening upset, might find itself aguinst tougher defensive resistance against Houston. Since Yeoman iniated the triple-option veer it would appear logical that he has devised a way to stor that same attack. Friday night's game might turn out to be more of a test of Carolina's personnel than a test of the offensive alignment. Against Georgia Tech the USC personnel ran the veer to near perfection. The honors received by Gamecock quarterback Jeff Grantz indicate the abilities exhibited by the sophmore in his first varsity start. His 102 yards rushing and 79 yards passing on 7-9 attempts earned him a slot in UPI's Backfield of the Week. Guiding the Cougar veer will be D.C.
