VSC Finds Sher Coach Frank McGuire's campaign to recruit big men for future Gamecock squads has paid off with the signing of 6-10, 215 pound Chuck Sherwood of Plan tation High School at Plantation, Fla. Sherwood, who averaged 20.7 points and 15.9 rebounds per game during his senior season, was signed by Gamecock assistant coach Bill Loving and becomes the second prospect to sign a Carolina grant-in-aid this spring. Nate Davis, a 6-5 forward who led Columbia's Eau Claire to the South Carolina Class AAAA title, was signed two weeks ago. Sherwood, who received All-County, All-Region and All-State honors at the conclusion of his senior season, was heavily recruited and said he narrowed his choice to Carolina, Auburn and Florida before deciding to cast his lot with the Gamecocks. Sherwood starred for two season at Plantation, SHOWS 1:30 3:30 5:30 7:30 LATE SHOW Saturday Rated All Shows Seats At R 11:3 $1.50 ONLY Center? wood Signs averaging 17.5 points and 13 rebounds per game as a junior. Sherwood, who visited the Carolina campus for the final game of the 1972-73 season, against Duquesne, said he was impressed with the enthusiasm of the Gamecock fans and the warm reception he received in addition to the Univer sity's academic and physical facilities. McGuire welcomed the addition of Sherwood, saying, "he is the kind of big man we have been looking for", and indicated the big Floridian has a bright future with the Gamecocks who featured two freshman starters enroute to a 22-7 record last season. McGuire hopes to sign at least one more big man during the 1973 recruiting season. ZIP KLEEN 1320 Main Street 1-hour cleaning 4-hour Laundry Service Monday - Saturda ~40_ MAI41 NOW! "We do have some tough foes coming up, especially this weekend and during our four day trip to the Mid-West later this month, when we'll face teams like Northwestern, Wisconsin and Notre Dame. We like the challenge of meeting strong opponents and feel that the only way to prove yourself is to take on the best available."
