Victori By Mark Leary Sports Writer The Carolina swimmers, after an impressive road trip, came home and closed out their home season with two impressive victories over Georgia Southern and North Carolina. The road trip started with a game at Georgia which the Gamecocks won by the score of 64 49. Brad Hitchings was voted Gamecock of the Meet as he broke the school record in the 200 But terfly and also swam a leg in both winning relay events. Another school record was broken by Sam Wafford as he swam to victory in the 200 Ind-Medley. Feb. 2 took the team to South Florida where the Gamecocks annihilated their opposition by the score of 88-24. The Carolina team won an easy victory against Georgia Southern, 75-38. The Gamecock of the Meet was Gary Wetherhold. The USC diver qualified for the Nationals as he ammassed 297.85 points. The closet person to him was his teammate James Tingen, who was second with 218.60. Everybody was ready for a very exciting meet Saturday as the Gamecocks faced UNC. North Carolina held a series lead of 8-1.. From the opening event Carolina pulled away from the Tarheels winning 10 out of the 13 events.
