Broom set to throw in Relays Forrest Broom will be the sole Carolina representative in the 1972 Penn Relays in Philadelphia. A senior weightman, Broom will throw the discus today, the third day of the four-day carnival. Last year USC won the Relays' sprint medley relay by defeating Villanova to end the Wildcat's string of 17 consecutive major relay titles. Broom has been a consistent winner for the Gamecocks in the discus this year, with a top toss of 173 feet, and has teamed with Rich Sorin to give Bill McClure's team a formidable 1-2 punch in the shot put.
