Campers for girls, By BOB GRONDAHL Staff Writer "Girls, girls, what we need is more girls to participate in our weekend camping trips," said a student as he sat by the roaring fire at Bell Camp this past weekend. This is what seemed to pervade the air as free food was being eaten, chess games being played and books being read. Ed McDonald, a recent USC graduate, discussed the need for careful planning for the upcoming Appalachian Trail hike as trail hiking requires a high degree of organization and proficiency. According to Recreation Committee Chairman Dan Bell, the University Union would like more faculty participation. "Faculty and staff participation in the past has been very low. We'd like to build it up," he said. Interested faculty, staff and students may sign up in Russell House room 321. The next trip scheduled is a three-day outing at Hunting Island beginning Friday. The trip will be limited to 40. A five to 10 mile back-packing hike along the Ap palachian Trail is scheduled for Feb. 18-20. Transportation, meals and tents will be provided. The Price is $3.50 and the limit is 40. A nine-day outing at Tomonka State Park, located 10 miles above Daytona on the ocean, has been planned for Easter vacation.
