Joyce ] conqu( By DOUG WILLIAMS Sports Editor Kevin Joyce scored 26 second half points, leading Carolina to a come-from-behind, 80-69 win over the Purple Eagles of Niagara Wednesday night in the Coliseum. Joyce, who had hit only three of seven from the field and one of two from the free throw line in the first half, ripped the nets on 11-14 field goal attempts and added four more from the line during the final period. For the second game in a row, the Gamecocks fell behind early. Niagara's Marshall Wingate hit a jump shot with 4:16 gone in the game to wipe out a 5-4 Carolina lead. Six-eleven Jim Hegmann added another basket, as did Jim Chassar, the Purple Eagles moving into a 10-5 lead. With nine minutes left in the opening period, Rick Aydlett scored on a set shot for USC's last basket in the two minutes to follow. During the Gamecock cold spell, Niagara reeled off seven straight points, gaining their largest ad vantage of the game at the 7:11 mark, 30-13. Carolina fought back in the closing moments of the first half, but was unable to halt the Eagle scoring, and found themselves on the short end of a 41-31 halftime score. After 12 first half turnovers and a miserable 31.4 per cent showing from the field, USC roared back.
