Bids end fall rush By KARY NEWTON Staff Writer USC sororities are trying something new this year, which Panhellenic Council Rush Chairman, Julianne Lewis, hopes will improve the rush system. Several women have ibeen ap pointed rush counselors to make themselves available to rushees and answer quest-.ons about various sororities and the rush system. Each counselor is responsible for 20 rushees. T'ie process for Rush is that each rushee will attend six first night parties, then invitations will be extended for each woman to attend four parties. On the last night, women will attend two parties. On the last night, women will sign preferential cards, indicating which sororities they prefer to join. Then sororities will issue bids. Women may not attend more than the required numbers of functions, but may attend fewer than the stated number of pe-ties. According to Marshall Foster, Panhellenic advisor, this year's rush has been a success due to the great show of interest and the particiation of 255 women. Although the hot-dog party on the quad was rained out Thursday, sorority members report that spirits are still up and many ac tivities are planned for the near future. Brittons sa' USC STUDENTS. "If called while enrolled, they will be allowed to postpone their induction until the end of the semester or term. "If the pending Selective Service legislation does not pass," Tarr said, "it would not be in a registrant's best interest to obtain a student deferment which would extend his liability until age 35. "Should Congress change the ments for incoming freshmen, which is most unlikely, ap plications for deferments will not be jeopardized by delaying their 'ECIALS for ftMOUS BRITTONS SALE! or $15 For $25 WD Reg. The President's authority to induct all men under 35, except those who have or who have had defPrments, expired June 30. If Congress does not reinstate the general induction authority, the President can authorize the induction of those registrants who hold or have held deferments. In this unlikely event, Selective Service officials believe the manpower requirement of the Department of Defense probably could be met by inducting those young men who have recently dropped deferments because they graduated, dropped out of school -or-cbaged their occupatm.~ . The officials added that can cellations of deferments probably would not be necessary nor would it be necessary to call those who have passed into the second priority selection group. Currently there are ap proximately six million young men under age 35 with deferments. Approximately 500,000 of these normally lose their deferments during a 12 month period.
