Budget i to be pr Iv' CIIARILES ELIENBAUM Staff Writer The Student Senate Financ( Committee will present its budgel recommendation to the Senate al the meeting this evening. The committee spent over 3 hours researching all requests to insure that every project receives the [unds it needs. according to 3obby Thomason, chairman of the finance committee. A bill to abolish stipends and implement a salary system is pending. If the bill is passed, senators will be paid according to the number of meetings they at tend. The Finance Committee has requested $10 a month for senators, and $15 a month for committee chairmen. Salary penalties would be stiffer for chairmen. A total of $3,550 would be necessary to pay stipends if all senators attended all meetings during the school year under the salary .system. $4,700 would be re(uired under stipend system. Senators will not be paid for any absences, excused and unex cused. Unexcused absences will carry a harsher penalty for senators. Thomason expects that no more than $2,200 will actually be paid to senators during the coming year if the bill passes. R esclution asks to readmit Leon By BOB CRAFT Staff Writer A resolution asking the University to readmit Gonzalo Leon as a studdnt will be in ~troduced into the Student Senate today. Tlhe resolution sponsored by Sen. D)an Eckstrom and co-sponsored by five other senators said "Our knowledge of Gonzalo Leon leads us to believe that he is a person of great potential" that "not read mitting him due to his police record (i.e. two drug convictions) is closing the only doors probably still left open to him in his life." Leon is on three years probation for conviction of separate charges of possession of LSD and possession of marijuana with in tent to sell. Leon said that he was dismissed f rom the University for destruction of state property during the riots last spring. He said he was noti being readmitted because of the drug convictions and that the charges were brought against him when he was not a student at the University. fDan Eckstrom said that he had talked at great length on numerous occasions with Leon and that he thought Leon was "sincere" in his wishes to return to the University. A massive rally to demand that President Nixon set a date for the total withdrawal of all American lorces from Vietnam will be held May 2. If the President does not meet the demand. "massive non-violent civil disobedience will begin to block access to all federal buildings in Washington," ac cording to Peter Brown, a member of SMC. Twenty-one strategic bridges and highway exists are to be blocked around Washington to paralyze the city, Brown said. -The city will be closed down. All actions are to be completely non-violent.
