LXI -NO. 79 University of South Caroline,ColumbiMonday, April 26. 1971 Special events Spring Thing From April 28 to May 2, the Special Events Committee of the University Union is presenting Spring Thing '71. The five day event will begin with International Dancing at 5:00 p.m. on the Russell House Patio, followed by the grand revival of Howdy Doody in the Russell House Cafeteria at 8p.m. Admission to both events is free. Beginning at 3:00 p.m. the second annual Body painting contest will be held and free bubble gum given out. At 8:00 p.m. Delaney, Bonnie and Friends will be at the Coliseum. Ticket prices are the same as for the Thursday night concert. On Thursday, the second day of Spring Thing, at 2:00 p.m. on the Russell House Ramp there will be a skate board contest and following at 4 p.m. will be an ice sitting contest. On Thursday night the Concert Committee and the Special Events Committee are presenting "Ike and Tina Turner" in the Coliseum at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $2.50 and $3.50 with student ID's and $4 and $5 to the public. Following the concert on Saturday an all-night Coffee House will run from 12 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. In the Golden Spur. The Russell House will remain open and live en tertainment, films and student talent will be presented. Refreshments will be served. At 11:00 there will be a boat race on the Reflection Pool. At 12:00 p.m. games and contests will begin on the Intramural Field and at 3:00 p.m. a Whopper Eating Contest at Burger King with a $25.00 first prize and $15.00 second prize in both the male and female competion. Entry blanks will be at the Russe i House Information Desk and at Burger King. The contest will be limited to 10 males and 10 females. At 8:00 p.m. In the Coliseum Parking Lot a Street Dance Contest featuring The Impact of Brass and a local group will bp held. Along with the dance there will be an outdoor cafe and beer will be served. It is open to only USC students and their dates, ID's will be checked. The final day of Spring Thing will be a blanket concert on the Intramural Fields featuring Linda Ronstadt, Don Cooper, Goose Creek Symphony, Jereme Storch, Speed Limit, Lion, Richard, Dooley and Susan. Admission is free. A carnival on the Intramural Field will begin Friday afternoon and run until Sunday night. MEF is a project to provide recreational and educational opportunities for underprivileged children during the summer.
