BEEBE: )uring my course of study at Carolina I have learned that one of the basic attributes of a I)emocracy is the orderly tran sition of power. At the end of each election the power and authority passes hands but in my opinion one of the most important attributes is the fact that the opposition doesn't attempt to keep the winners from gaining the authority invested in them by the electorate. The, principles are necessary for gos government but abiding by these principles are not enough to promote efficient, representative and workable student government. As I review the past Spring elections, I find myself being educated to the true mechanics of politics. In my quest for vice president of the student body, I was determined to hold steadfast to my ardent philosophies of life. I saw the election as a challenge not a war. I endeavored to maintain my very friendly and pleasant relationship with my opponents even though during the campaign they would seem to be my enemies. In this fight we as candidates had one primary and ever-present goal: our desire to contribute to student government all the resources we have to make it truly representative of the E (Continued on page 5) TIO
