Notes and quotes from the ACC By the Sports Staff If USC can manage to beat N.C. State tomorrow, it would mark only the second time in ACC history that a school's football and basketball teams would go undefeated in the same year in conference play. In the 1962-63 season, Duke was 6-0 in football and 14-0 in basketball. Warren Muir, USC's All-America in football, has been invited to play in the 10th annual Coaches All-America football game June 27 in Lubbock, Tex. John Roche advanced into seventh place among all-time scorers at USC after his 24-point performance. against Wake Forest. Roche, who moved ahead of Skip Harlicka, has 1227 points in his varsity career. Dan Issel of Kentucky and Bob Lanier of St. Bonaven ture, two possible Gamecock foes later this season are both averaging over 30 points a game, and lead their teams in rebounding. Should the Gamecocks face either of these teams, USC's tall front line would get a stiff test, because Issel is hitting 55.9 per cent from the floor, and Lanier 57.5 per cent. The Biddies with a 12-3 record are not the only school in the conference with a good frosh team. Many think that the Blue Imps of Duke have the best first year club in the ACC Duke is undefeated in freshman play this season. In a game against Gaston Junior College, the Imps won by 43 points. This same Gaston team beat the Biddies by a point. The Gamecocks got widespread publicity when the rnost recent issue of Sports llustrated devoted four pages, complete with a picture of Frank McGu ire, to the top three teams in the ACC. After the Gamecocks' march through North Carolina last week, a great deal of the article was devoted to Scouth Carolina. The Feb. 18 issue of The Technician, a student paper at N.C. State, was devoted entirely to the State basketball team. The only page that followed the usual format was the letters to the Editor, but these too had to do with the ticket distribution and the band. Unfortunately for the gung-ho State fans, USC entered Raleigh that night and dropped the Wolfpack 7 1-69. So much for the power of the press.
