The 22 wins established a USC mark for the most wins in one season. With only the North Carolina State game left, the Gamecocks stand with a perfect 13-0 record in the ACC and 22-2 overall. USC Coach Frank McGuire used Bobby Cremins against Davies, the same tactic he employed against Wake Forest's high scorer in the team's first meeting. Davies scored 21 points, but made only seven of 23 shots. "He(Davis) is just a great player" Cremins said. "I guarded him no differently than I would a bigger man. I am only out three to stop him from scoring." To the GAMECOCK To USC students: Be Fron H But ti Super Hugi If it were an c dluced it at the ort( Instead, we to Camaro. A John Ribock tap-in pulled Gamecocks ahead and USC gained a half time advantage of seven, 28-21. The start of the second half was reminiscent of the Davidson-USC second half. The Gamecocks hit a cold spell. The Deacons got hot and went ahead at 35-34. Tom Riker, continuing his recent surge, hit three consecutive freethrows to turn the see-saw game in the Gamecocks direction. Riker scored 15 of his 17 points in the final half to combine with John Roche, who scored 24, to carry away the victory. Riker also led the rebounding department with 13.
