The Gamecocks travel to Green. ville tomorrow for the Furman Relays. Yale started the day by setting a track record in the 440 relay as their anchor man sealed the victory to give the Bulldogs a time of 41.4. Bob K a c z k a remained unde feated in the 880 as he captured t h a t event for the Gamecocks. Kaczka went through the entire indoor season without a loss in the distance race. Finishing a strong third behind Kaczka was sophomore Paul Der rick. Carolina grabbed five other first places, but could never catch Yale puintwise, as t h e Ivy Leaguers swept both relays and finished one two four times. Dave Smith won the triple jump and took two thirds, in the javelin and the 120 high hurdles. Smith also tied .two teammates in the high jump as the Gamecocks swept that event on the qualifying leap. Gary Zemel won the shot with a heave of 48'4 as footballer Jimmy Poston placed third. Sophomore Jim S c o t t cleared 14'6 to win the pole vault. Tyler Hellams won the long jump. Mike Cauley won the javelin for Carolina's first win in a number of meets in that event. I)ave Peddie finished second in the two mile event, but he was racing against one of the nation's best. Yale's Frank Shorter won the event in over nine minutes, which is slow for the runner. He has run the two mile in 8:45 this year, the fastest time for the two mile in the country this year.
