The selection was made from 176 entries last fall by the Festival's central committee. In the next 15 to 20 years a ne-w freeway will be constructed around Carolina that will link USC to ad jacent freeway extensions leading to Columbia suburbs. The freeway which will cross the campus is part of a larger highway system designed to alleviate the traffic problem of downtown 'Co lumbia. "The new construction, tenta tively called the Valley Freeway, will loop a r o u n d the southern boundary of USC, forming the southern quarter of a ioop which will surround the city," Wyndham said. The exact location will not be determined for the next two or three years. There will be several extensions adldedl to the freeway, one of which will link the eastern section of Co lumbia to USC. It is now in the p)lanning stages and is due to be completedl in the next four years.
