In the next 15 to 20 years a ne-w
freeway will be constructed around
Carolina that will link USC to ad
jacent freeway extensions leading
to Columbia suburbs.
The freeway which will cross the
campus is part of a larger highway
system designed to alleviate the
traffic problem of downtown 'Co
lumbia.
"The new construction, tenta
tively called the Valley Freeway,
will loop a r o u n d the southern
boundary of USC, forming the
southern quarter of a ioop which
will surround the city," Wyndham
said. The exact location will not
be determined for the next two or
three years.
There will be several extensions
adldedl to the freeway, one of which
will link the eastern section of Co
lumbia to USC. It is now in the
p)lanning stages and is due to be
completedl in the next four years.
The traffic problem was studied
