The Marching Gamecocks leave the stadium, reload the buses and begin the trip back to Co lumbia. Exhaustion because the day began at 5 a.m. with two alarm clocks screaming, three friends calling and an angry roommate-all making sure I would be on the bus at Mc Master by 6. Elation because our team was victorious and our per formance was spirited. Now it's all over, but as I watch the countryside slipping by, my eyes are drawn to a vacant field an( it all comes back. Drill Field A. "Coquettes on the other end of the field. Band, kok at your charts. First rank on the 20." Monday afternoon. How do you describe a Monday after noon? Confusing and never-ending. Yardlines and music fall together with a certain amount of precision by Tuesday afternoon. The halftime show is completed and we go over pre-game, revising, cutting, add. ing. Thursday it must be perfect. This is our last rehearsal before our performance on Saturday. "Let-s do it again, band." and we do, again and again and again. By the end of the day, we are ready.
