Wilner, hypothesizing on the reasons for this freedom, said, "It might well be that SFS's newness, its lack of traditions, its unpredictable and generally older streetcar students, its young faculty and its young come-and-go administrators, its compulsion to be anti-establish ment . . . it might be that this unformed character is the source of its brash and eccentric spirit." The most contributing influ ence on the college, however, is probably San Francisco itself. Part of this atmospliere of freedom is reflected in a radical new program called Experimen tal College. This idea of a student-spon sored curriculum, flourished at SFS. Upperclassmen achieve ment shows that men choose roommates who achieve similarly to themselves, while women pay no attention to this factor at all. An overachiever is defined in the study as a student whose class standing at the end of the semester or of the academic year was higher than his ability as measured by College Board scores. rt -Shirt Black,
