Angel FligJ Applicatio Angel Flight, the coed auxiliary of Arnold Air Society in .the Air Force ROTC, will begin interviews for new members on April 6. Girls interested in joining Angel Flight are asked to fill out an ap plication and to return it, along with a recent photograph, to Patti Knight, Box 2299, Campus. Application f o r m a have been placed in the 1 o b b i e s of the women's dormitories. To be eligible for consideration in Angel Flight, a girl must be a junior, sophomore, or second se mester freshman, with a cumula tive g r a d e point ratio of 2.5. Angels are selected on the basis of appearance, poise, intelligence, at titude, and interest. Angel Flight was founded at Carolina in the spring semester of I(w1. The objectives of the organi zation are to advance and promote interest in the Air Force, to obtain information concerning the mili tary services, to aid the progress of the Arnold Air Society, and to act as official hostesses for the AFiOTC at the U n i v e r s i t y of South C a r o I i n a in their social activities. Members of Angel Flight meet on Thursdays at 4 p.m. and wear the Angel Flight uniform each Thurs1ay. The uniforms are fur nished by the Flight to members. Dues are $7.50 per year, and the initiation fee is $2.50. Angel Flight, although a rela tively new campus organization, is one of Carolina's most important interest groups. Its members act Trash Cans Cause New Problems If there's one thing that USC needed, it was trash cans. Heently the campus has been gifted with a number of bright shiny new trash disposers. Stra t-_ivally placed, these reciprocals for refuse are visiable everywhere. They are the recipients, not only of isless trash, but also of ad miring ghances and remarks such as "Hlave you seen the new trash cans?" These objects have been taken for mailboxes in the night by dis traught coeds who are anxious be cause they forgot to sign out. And you wonder why Boyfriend Hill never got your letter. For some reasons the sight of these new additions to the campus IIritg out the worst in USC stu dlents. They immediately feel that it is their sworn duty to repeat every jingle or dialogue concern ing "littering" ever p u b 1 i s h ed. Somehow they always manage to drop that gum~ wrapper on the grouJtnd though. One angered young man even tried to put his female friend in one. Fortunately for her, she was strion)ger than him. l'encils, p)ens, notes, change and somtetimies even meal tickets are accidentally tossed into the trash cans by overly conscientious but not alert students. Carolina Students Destroy Valuable Lab Instruinents BY MIKE EJI)SON Staff Writer This column is directed toward those members of the Carolina student body who take a foreivn language and use the language labs in DeSaussure College. To be sure the guilty mmbers of the student body use their har haric skills elsewhere, but nowhere is the destruction as evident as at the old language buil(ling on the Horseshoe. Anyone who has been in the labs recently can see that they have not been merely vandalized. but have also been mutilated by stu dents of a university which is supposed to be made up of mature. civilized men and women. Almost every unit in the hls have been dlefacedI. Scit nitifie equip ment purchased for the atvance ment of the foreign language de partment has been tortured by the blades of hungry knivs, busy pen cils, and ink pens of every color. But simply marking on the delicate features of a Thompson Ramo Woohlri,r( Educational Aid is not enough fun for some stu dents. Many find the time and op portunity to crush speakers, rip apart earphones, and generally treat the units like worn out toys. The Adminitration wants to discourage this type of wholesale destruction without resorting to the measures that are used to pro teet the same type of equipment in high schools. These methods are too childish to normally consider, but maybe the men and women of Carolina are not really men and women at all.
