Staff Writer It is unusual when the Holly wood movie-makers go out of their way to make a truly realistid film, especially when the particular motion picture depicts the lives of young people. In "The Young Lovers," how ever, they seem to have done just this. Recently, local theater screens have been cluttered with the splurge of beach-party and surf ing flicks. In "The Young Lovers," pro ducer - director Samuel Goldwyn, Jr., has attempted to deliver a motion picture that vix idly por trays life in a large modern uni versity. In a down-to-earth man ner, he presents the college student as facing the joys, problems, and decisions in his campus environ ment. The picture is based on the novel by Julian Halevy. This book has been one of the most popular among young readers; it has sold more than four million copies in the paperback edition alone. Finally, after a long search, an acceptable screenwriter was found in the person of George Garrett, a novelist and professor of English at the University of Virginia. This necessary evil has become a true art at Carolina. Students refuse to let the iong tedious wait ing get them C.own. Instead of succumbing to boreaom, they have resorted to the invention of in genious devices and vices for passing the time. Students of line-waiting often turn to the relaxation and inspira tion of yoga to divert their atten tion from the frustration of wait ing in line. In almost any line of considerable length at least one student can be seen sitting with his legs crossed and with a gaze of utter serenity blanketing his Clearasil-smeared face. This pas time can be hazardous, however, for should the line suddenly speed up, the hapless yogi may find him self a trampled pulp or even worse, a rabbit, cow or some other animal of the reincarnated state. A particularly popular vice often practiced by line-waiters is observing members of the opposite sex. The idea is not to get caught while observation is in progress. Their relationship narrowly skirts tragic consequences before their experience gives them more mature outlooks on life which better en ables them to solve their problems. We repeat, however, each story or sequence must be presented on three 16 x 20 boards taped to gether. Single pictures, regardless of size, must be mounted on 11 x 14 inch boards. 5. Pictures must have been taken during the student's career at USC, if they are of USC campus activities. 6. The maker classifies all prints entered, but the judges (at their discretion) maintain the right to change categories. All entries must have the official entry form on back of the poster board. Names must not appear on the front. 7. All prints become the property of the USC Student Union.
