The 6 -3 forward now has 1,111 points for his career and has scored in double figures for the last 47 games dating back to the final six contests of his sophomore year. Wake trimmed the Gamecocks 92-79 up at Winston-Salem two and a half weeks ago, and the men of Dwane Morrison have been looking forward to this rematch in the friendly confines of Caro lina Field House ever since. WCCA-TV The game will be locally tele vised on WCCA (Channel 25) with tip-off time slated for 8:40 P.M. Our defense is better, and the whole attitude of the kids is better. They're really playing to gether now." DEACONS ARE STRONG The USC mentor concedes, how ever, that the Deacons are bigger and stronger than the Gamecocks, on the inside. This makes it really rough for Carolina to get rebounds against Wake, as was demonstrated in the Winston-Salem game. Led by Ronny Watts' 19-hoard recoveries, the Demon Deacons out.rebounded the Gamecocks 50 32. Morrison regards this inside strength as one of the primary reasons for the Deacs' win in the first game. He adds, "They have a real good starting five, they have experience, speed, height, strength, and good shooters." Bones McKinney is indeed blessed with balance. All five starters are averaging in double figures. TIIE FIRST GAME Against Carolina in Winston Salem, Watts scored 19, Butch lassell 17, Bob Leonard 16, Frank Christie 14, Dick Carmichael 13, and the sixth man, Richard liar ring, netted nine points. In addition all grabbed their share of the rebounds. Watts ranks second in the ACC in that department, second only to UNC's 3illy Cunningham. THE GAMECOCKS In the forecourt, the Gamecocks will have the brilliant, 6-3 senior from Winnsboro, Ronnie Collins. Ronnie scored 35 points in last Saturday's clash with the North Carolina Tar Heels to set a North South record. He now has a 23.6 average for the season and a total of 1,111 points for his college career. Ile has hit for double figures in 47 consecutive games, dating back to his last six as a sophomore. Joining Ronnie up front will be 6-1 Jimmy Collins. with a 16.1 average. John Schroeder, who en joyed the finest night of his ca reer against UNC with 17 points and eight rebounds, is slated for duty at center. In the backcourt, the talents of Terry Lucansky, 6-0, and Hill Yar brough, 6-3, will be on display, and they are abundant. Lucansky, the senior playmaker from Massillon, Ohio, helped harass North Caro lina's Mike Cooke into nine ball handling mistakes, while Yar brough was also a demon on de fense and on the backboards. Yarbrough is the Gamecocks number three scorer at 14.7, and leads in rebounds with P.4 a game. Morrison comments, "I'm look ing forward to getting them in our place with our fans." I'm sure no Carolina basketball fans will need more urging to get out Sat urday night and watch our Game cocks repay a debt. when are 65% and 35% good marks?
