Pick iators, Dancers Perform For USC Artists Series Begins Season By ANN WINCHEIL< News Staff Writer Opening the USC Artists Series Wednesday, October 16, at 8 p.m. in the Field House will be Jose Malina and his S p a n i s h dance group. The show, which has traveled throughout Europe and in the Orient, has been acclaimed by re viewers as, "Dazzling," "A rare treat," and "One in a million." The program consists of dances, songs, and piano pieces displaying life in Spain. The show opens with "Caracoles De Cadiz." This is a dance inspired l by the popular "paseo," the hour H when all of Spain put on its finery k and goes out for an evening stroll. -. This dance was created in Cadiz where the women were noted for their exaggerated dress and for the "caracoles" or curl-like movements which they made with their fans when fanning themselves. The show then takes us to a bandit's hideout high in the Sierra Mountains where the dancers per- ' form Los Contrabandistas. Positions to be filled include freshman president, vice-presi dent, secretary and treasurer, three freshman senate represen tatives, a student member of the Faculty Disciplinary Com mittee, a student senator from the School of Arts and Sciences and a student senator from Graduate School. Candidates for the position on he Faculty Disciplinary Commit ee must be seniors with a 3.0 rade point ratio. Student senate andidates must he upperclassmen rith grade point ratios of 2.0.
