BIRD FR~ED *tUSCHUMPERT The 1962-63 intramural year is under way. Swimming i. in the past, football has just begun, and many other sport are yet to come. The incentive that each fraternity an< zone team works toward is the Intramural All-Sport Trophy. One of the most competitive teams on campus is th4 Sigma Nu Fraternity. This group has captured the annua All-Sports Trophy FIVE OUT OF THE LAST SEVED YEARS. Pi Kappa Alpha and Phi Kappa Sigma are th< other title holders. Last year, Sigma Nu, under the leadership of Jimm: Lanford, Osce Self, Jimmy Mills, and Ronnie Collins, wo) the fraternity badminton singles, ping-pong singles an doubles, basketball, volleyball, and softball. This season thi "Nu's" are again expected to be a leading contender in eacl of the 11 year-long events. KA will be another one of the main threats in the intra mural program this year. They were fraternity champion. in golf and won the campus football title. Delaney Ruff Commander Jimmy Mills and Lt. Conmmander Jimmy Landford display Sigma Nu AMl-Sports Trophies. Bill Price, Pinky Skinner, Jerry Watson and Bobby lVullei are returning this year with efforts to boos,t their teams t( the top. Pi Kappa Alpha, which won the fraternity title in tracl and swimming, will be the next leading contender for hon ors. They have gotten off to a good start this year, wvinning the swimming meet. Jim Fitzpatrick, Billy Gambrell, Robit Stanford, and Ken Rea were outstandling athletes last yeai and will again be the high hopes for the Pikas. SAE and SPE failed to place in the finals last year, bu1 both were tough competitors. Both had a fine year in foot ball and softball. In the swimming meet, which took plac about twvo weeks ago, SA E captured second place. INDEPENDENT LEAGUE Zone 6 will be the main worry for the fraternity team when it comes to campus championships. Last year this zon won the campus title in basketball and softball, and th independent honors in volleyball, track, and miniature golf They also possessed the "Intramural Athlete of the Year -Lyles Adair. Zone 6 will not be as strong as they were las season, but will have some fine leaders in Todd Wilson Johnny Lester, and Joe Prehodlka. COMMENT ON SPIRIT Seems that we got off our "fannies" last Saturday -w had the most enthusiastic cheering section that has eve. entered the stadium. Coach Bass, at the Monday pres luncheon, saidl, "That was the best student cheering I'v ever seen - we could hear them all over the field !"
