It I is difficult to believe that the chil s dren of University professors once played with these rare and valu . able artistic works. d Originally, the first 10 plates a were ingraved on sheets of copper. e Audubon then transferred his . work to London where it was coin . pleted and retouched. It was de cided that the finished plates were e to be issued five at a time during e the years 182'; to 1838. After the j works were shipped to America t they were brought to Columbia from Charleston via wagon. The s five volumes of Ornathological i Biography supply a text for the plates. _ These volumes are available to students who visit the Rare Book Room. A thing of beauty is a joy I forever. Be joyful.
