Arnold Air Auxiliar) Angels Bri By ROSEMARY HANKINS Assistant Feature Editor Angel Flight, the feminine coun terpart of the Arnold Air Society became a permanent fixture on the Carolina scene last spring, when the angels began wearing their uni. forms. The boys snapped to atten. tion for more reasons than rank when the girls passed them or campus. They were presented to thc corps at the military hall, and in the words of one of the uen in uniform, they're a "fine organiza tion." Other comments varied from an enthusiastic chuckle to "Gheish!" The briefing concerning Angel UMAXC o C, Alo Jo C'0-', o o 00 A Sophomore By Robin Bursix Staff Writer They're here again -- the threat to Carolina womanhood. With shiny new weejuns and unbed madras out fits, the freshman girls have arrived. Dewey-eyed and vinthusiastic, they would never stoop Lo running around in a rumpled raincoat or for that matter, a wrinkled dress. Their sneakers have no holes in them. Faithfully, each freshman rolls her hair and many even consider apply ing mascara part of their morning routine. IO WEATHER-i Is there a nip in the air? The girls serve as official hostesses for the Arnold Air Society, as campus guides for visiting dignitaries, as sponsors for a number of drop-ins during the year, and as the hand behind the "home touch" in the Air Force Lounge, which they are Laments... Questions ranged from, "Why do you want to be an Angel ?" and "What do you think of the uniform," to "What do you know about military service ?" One of the Angels, her eyelashes creating a mild typhoon, murmered, "Of course I didn't know a thing _ about military affairs, but I love the uniform." She did not specify which uniform she particularly ad- J mired, hers or the boys' in blue, but I got the general drift of her train Df thought. Angel Flight has a very attrac tive uniform-ask any guy. The freshmen represent many sections of the country and below are some of the comments they have made about USC. Pettigrew Hamilton, who has attended schools both in the United States and abroad, finds that life is gayer and more likable here than in Europe. The Conservatory in Brussels was the school he last attended. "I was tired of being around liberals, so I came to Carolina," said Mary Bush McCormack, from Alexandria, Virginia. She particu larly likes the USC campus. Dorm Improvement Jon Steel, from Milwaukee, Wis consin, commented that he thought some of the dorms could be im proved. Jon is attending Carolina on a Navy scholarship. Hailing from Miami, Florida, is Pam Mason, who said that cold weather made her come to South Carolina. Taking a definite stand on footwear, she said, "I don't like to wear loafers - they're out in Florida." Rockin' School "USC is a rocking school," said Jane Tensel, from Nashville, Ten nessee. "I don't want to ever go home!" Mary Carolyn Spears, from Balti more, Maryland, likes USC because "it isn't too big, but it's recognized." She believes that there is more room here for individualism than in larger colleges. A "Tar Heel" student, Jane Wanda, from Coolemee, North Carolina, laments the wear and tear on her feet while getting about on campus. Here's to you, freshmen!
