Battalion Announces Officers The battalion organization of the NROTC has been, announced by Lt. Col. R. B. Jeter, USMC, acting professor of naval science. Midshipman Commander E. W. Beardshall, Jr., is a senior in electrical engineering and is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the hon orary engineering fraternity. Beardshall won the Reserve Of ficer's award for outstanding naval aptitude. He is also a mem ber of AIEE-IRE. His home town is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Midshipman Lt. Commander W. E. Queen, battalion executive officer, is an electrical engineer ing senior. Queen is a member of Tau Beta Pi, and ranks high in his class in academic standing. He is also chairman of the AIEE IRE. Queen holds the Academic and Aptitude award won during his sophomore and junior years in the N ROTC. Midshipman Ensign V. A. Spears, battalion supply and rec reation officer is majoring in polit ical science and belongs to Phi Kappa Sigma, social fraternity. Midshipman Ensign G. S. King, battalion public information of ficer, is majoring in mechanical engineering and is a member of Kappa Alpha, social fraternity. Midshipman CPO W. J. Moore, Jr., is battalion chief party officer, and is majoring in mechanical engineering. Midshipman Lt. H. R. Sturm, Jr. is "Bravo" company com mander. Sturm is a chemical engi neering major. He belongs to Sigma Phi Epsilon social fra ternity. Midshipman Lt. T. C. R. Legare, .11%, battalion operations officer, is a member of Pi Kappa Phi so vial fraternity and is captain of the Compass and Chart. Midshipman Ensign P. M. Tack ney, battalion adjutant is a his tory major. le belongs to Sigma P1hi Epsilon, social fraternity. Midshipman Lt. D. R. Brecken ridge is "Alpha" company com mander. Breckenridge is a me chanical engineering major. Newly Formed Club Elects Top Officers The Eastern Orthodox Fellow ship, a newvly organized religious club, will have its second meeting on Wednesday, November 4, at 7:30) p.m. It will he a social meet ing held at the Hellenic Commu ntity Center at Sumter and Cal houn Streets. There wvill be danc ing and refreshments. Officers of the newly formed club are Vasiliki Moskos, presi dent; A ngela Beleos, v-ice presi dent.; He (len Theos, corresponding secretary, and Libby Kiriakides, rcordi ing secretary. Reverend Homer Goumenis of the lloly Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Columbia is the club's religious advisor. Miss Ruby M. R Profess Chair I In the near future professorial chairs will he endowed at Caro lina. This move is being made with hopes of retaining and at tracting outstanding professors tc Carolina. These endowments will come from the principal investment of the money which has and is be ing collected by the Chair En dowment Club which is a part of the University of South Carolina Educational Foundation. The Chair Endowment Club is composed of )ersons who subscribe to a contribution of at least $5,000 to the Educational Foundation. This is payable over a five-year period. Thus far $80,000 has been pledged. President Sumwalt will honoi the members of this club with a dinner in the faculty dining roon of Russell House tomorrow, Oc tober 31, at 6:30 p.m. E. Smyth( Gambrell, prominent Atlanta at torney, will chairman this first meeting of the club which wag organized last May. Air Scienc Three Cad Three cadlet hoards have beer1 set up in the air science depart ment to govern cadet actions. Cadlet Col. Eugene .Jones said t,hat this was the first time the boards, headed by cadet officers, have been in use at the Univer sity. The most imp)ortant hoard is the disciplinary board, headed h.v Cadet Lt. Col. Robert Roseman. The function of this board is tc make recommendations on cadle status in the corps. Its p)urpose is to review cadets on excess demerits andl infractions of the disciplinary code of the corps, and is made up of three cadhet officers: Cadet Captain R. TI Baker, Cadet Major R. A. Queen. ors Rec nowm At the meeting the members will prepare a proposal to present to the board of directors of the Educational Foundation at their meeting on November 21. The pro posal will be the nomination of a professor to be endowed at that time. The endowed professor will not only receive his regular salary but also a supplement for his en dowment to a chair. Many schools use this method to gain outstanding professors. This is the first attempt Carolina has made in that direction. The Educational Foundation also hopes to attain three other objectives during 1959-1960 through the $5.00 or more contributions made by members of the Alumni Asso eiation or Education Foundation. These three objectives are as follows: (1) The establishment of a Master of Business Administra tion Degree at the University by providing funds for financing this program to achieve fellowships for deserving students, research, (course material, and lectures and r? Segui are the other members of this three-man board. The selection board is headed by Cadet Lt. Col. James M. Lacy, and has been set up to recommend junior cadets for officer positions in the corps. These juniors will take over command1 from the pres ent cadet officers at the end of Ithis semester. Mr. Lacy has named Cadet Major John Kenney and Cadet Captain Malcolm Medlin as board members.
