Co-Captai 'Clemson Strong' Says Coach Giese "This Clemson team is as experi enced as any they have had," Coach Warren Giese said discussing the "Big Thursday" game. "Clemson has the strongest personnel of any team in the (Atlantic Coast) Con ference." They have two good quarterbacks and a veteran back field, two deep." "I think Clemson will use some thing different against us," Giese related. "We are trying to fill gap ing holes made by injuries. "Six men have been moved up to the second team because of injuries since the season began." Twenty men on the Gamecock team will see action for their first Clemson-Carolina affair. It seems the University of South Carolina won the first Clemson tussle, in 1896, by a score of 12 to 6. Now, 63 years later, let's end the series with a smash ing victory over our poor cousins from the northern hills. . . . Stephen Michael Kopian, a casualty from the UNC game at Chapel Hill, has returned to cam pus from the Columbia Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a knee injury. Halfback Kopian will be out for the rest of the season, thus cutting short what was a promising senior year for the Glen Cove, New Yorker. The Dixie Legion ... Someone gave the frosh basket ball squad a nickname, in jest to! be sure, that might stick. Everett Nevman is reported to have turned down a handsome pro-baseball contract to return to USC for his education. Rex Enright Stadium . . "The Gamecock" in its edi torial columns urges that the Car olina Stadium be named for our beloved Director of Athletics, Rex Enright. This would be a great honor for a truly great gentleman who has served this institution, this state, and the young men of Carolina for the better part of his life. This columnist joins with the editor in urging the students, the administration, and the board of trustees to name the stadium THE REX ENRIGHT STADIUM. Praises Stevens . Bud Cronin, a forward on last year's frosh cage team, has high words of praise for Coach Stevens conditioning program. Most cagers usually run from 5 to 7 miles in the average basketball game, but when those miles are transferred to a track on Davis Field, it seems longer-longer-longer. . . . Four conifer ence opponents are to be met and conquered if the Gamecocks are to regain national prestige. Miami furnishes the fifth test for the Carolina footballers. Nugene's-"r Coach Tom Nugent brings his on-again-off-again footballers to Carolina (Rex Enright) Stadium October 31 to test the Gamecock defense against the explosive "I" formation. Maryland began this season with a victory over West Virginia; then they lost three games to Texas, Syracuse, and Wake Forest. Saturday, the Terps dropped North Carolina 14-6 in an upset. The Tar Heels pre viously enled the Gamecocks' win ning streak at seven games. On November 7, the Game cocks journey to Charlottesville, to meet Virginia's Cavaliers. The Virginians, coached by Dick Voris, have lost 13 in a row. The last time they won was in the second game last season against Duke. Florida Sun On November 13, the Game cocks journey to Florida for a taste of summer in the midst of the cold weather. MiAmi furnishes the opposition in the Orange Bowl Stadium. C. State, while Covington "Goat" Mc Millan's Baby Bengals have not been scored upon in conquering Wake Forest and Georgia.
