CHI OMEGA On April 5, 1895, at the Uni versity of Arkansas in Fayette ville, Arkansas, Dr. Charles 'R. Richardson, a Kappa Sigma, as sisted Jobelle Holcombe, Ina May Boles, Alice Smith, and Jean Vin iniiller in the formation of the 'rst chapter of Chi Omega. On February 15, 1928, the cardinal and straw, and white carnation introduced itself to the University of S.uth Carolina students as Eta Gamma of Chi Omega. The activities that the sorority participates in each year are an adoption of a family at Christ mas, providing them with a com plete day, an EvIter Egg Hunt held for the undelfrivileged chil dren, and at Thanksgiving the pledge class provides a Thanks giving dinner for a needy family. Other activities include the Ch Omega Dance held once every to years, the Eleusinian, which is the Founders Day Banquet held in honor of the parents of the members, and a Senior Picnic held for graduating members. On Awards Day, Chi Omega presents the Social Science prize to the outstanding female gradu ate elected by the Departments of Political Science, Philosophy, So ciology, Psychology, History, etc. The Millie Zimmerman Award is granted to the outstanding member of and elected by, the Euphrosynean Literary Society. CHI PSI Chi Psi, eighth of the fraterni ties in age was established on May 20, 1841 at Union College by Major-General James C. Duane, Judge Patrick U. Berthoud, John Brush, Jr., Dr. Jacob H. Farrell, Robert H. Mc Faddin, Samuel T. Taber, Hon. William F. Terhune and Hon. James L. Witherspoon. At pres ent there are 27 chapters in the United States. On May 6, 1858 the colors of purple and gold found its way to the University of South Carolina. It was closed in 1861, reopened in 1867 after the War of Northern Agresion, closing again in 1873 to be opened again ten years later. In 1898, Alpha Beta again closed its doors to remain so until 1956 when it~ was revived to a very active fraternity, with many of their aspects of brotherhood brought to life in each new mem ber. Every two years, Alpha Beta Chapter of Chi Psi holds their Medallion Ball at which time the Lady of Chi Psi receives the Me dallion. The Alpha Beta Birthday Dinner is held each year to cele brate the founding of the fra ternity. This year will be the one hundred and first anniversary of the founding of Chi Psi. An orphanage party is given each year at Christmas to share with those who have no individual love of real parents, the affection and attention which all of them need. Scholarship is emphasized in Chi Psi with noticed attention to two trophies. The Thayer Trophy given to the chapter showing the most progress and improvement within the preceding college year. The Goodbody Trophy is awarded to the Alpha whose scholastic average had compared most fa vorably with the all-men's aver age on the individual campus. Some of the outstanding Chi Psi members are Messrs. B. M. Flexibility is key - you've got to be willing to adapt 'youi ideas of a good weekend to youi date's. 2. Easy on finances. He's on a budget too. 3. Concentrate on him, not on his roommate. Departure Time 4. Set a time of departure, then stick to it. He's got to face Monday morning and a pile ol unopened books, too. 5. As for packing, try to find out what you'll be doing, then keep it light. 6. Make a list of what you take. (You can check with it jusl before you're ready to leave al the end of the weekend, to be sure that you have left nothing be hind.) What you take of course, will depend on the college that you visit. A wool (or cotton depending on the season) dres with matching jacket - just the most useful thing invented for this kind of outing.
