the University of South Carolina.
It was closed in 1861, reopened in
1867 after the War of Northern
Agresion, closing again in 1873
to be opened again ten years
later. In 1898, Alpha Beta again
closed its doors to remain so until
1956 when it~ was revived to a
very active fraternity, with many
of their aspects of brotherhood
brought to life in each new mem

Every two years, Alpha Beta
Chapter of Chi Psi holds their
Medallion Ball at which time the
Lady of Chi Psi receives the Me

Dinner is held each year to cele

hundred and first anniversary of
the founding of Chi Psi. An
orphanage party is given each
year at Christmas to share with
those who have no individual love
of real parents, the affection and
attention which all of them need.
Scholarship is emphasized in
Chi Psi with noticed attention to
two trophies. The Thayer Trophy
given to the chapter showing the
most progress and improvement
within the preceding college year.
The Goodbody Trophy is awarded
to the Alpha whose scholastic
average had compared most fa

age on the individual campus.
Some of the outstanding Chi
Psi members are Messrs. B. M.
Edwards, Clark Reed, Charles
Daniels, Eddie Albert, William
Astor, Chief Justice Fuller, and
Vic Seixas.

Weekend
Date Tips
By SANDI DINKINS
Planning a glamorous weekend
at another college? Here are some
tips for you girls en budgeting
your time, money and wardrobe,
1. Flexibility is key - you've
got to be willing to adapt 'youi
ideas of a good weekend to youi
date's.
2. Easy on finances. He's on a
budget too.
3. Concentrate on him, not on
his roommate.
Departure Time
4. Set a time of departure,
then stick to it. He's got to face
Monday morning and a pile ol
unopened books, too.
5. As for packing, try to find
out what you'll be doing, then
keep it light.
6. Make a list of what you
take. (You can check with it jusl
before you're ready to leave al
the end of the weekend, to be sure
that you have left nothing be
hind.)
What you take of course, will
depend on the college that you
visit. But there are three basic
things that you will need any
where in the country:
Proper Outfit
A hat (church or cnapel Sun
day morning). A wool (or cotton
depending on the season) dres
with matching jacket - just the
most useful thing invented for
this kind of outing.
With the.jacket, the "suit" look
is fine for daytime; minus the
jacket, the dress can take you
through the evening. And don'l
forget that one, spiffy perfume.
