GENERAL MOTORS Sweethet Hair Sty By GLENNA BRYANT Society Edtor A lovely-to-look-at hairdress, directing a definite trend away from the Empire inspired hair fashion of last year, is predicted for spring and summer of 1959. The new style is the "Sweet heart Coiffure," described by au thorities as the "highly feminine new American look" and has a positive American post-Empire appearance. The new look is destined for popularity not only a m o n g women, but the 'men who vocally raised such strong objections about the recent chemise and sack influences in American style. Control Control is the key word in your coiffure, just as it is the key to your spring clothing silhouette. Special emphasis will be placed this year on coordinating hair fashions- and hat designs, so that hair will be styled for spring hat wear. The Sweetheart coiffures will have a fuller look at the sides than in previous seasons, with a gentle flatness across the top and mid-ear sections to harmonize with the new wide collars. A smooth effect of waves over the ear in some styles will add a soft shimmering touch to the sifts of the cheeks. In announcing the new style, the Official Hair Fashion Com mittee of the National Hair dressers and Cosmetologists Assn. described the new look as one of awareness, of an A m e r i c a n woman who is gentle and direct, and at ease in her surroundings. 'Heart Bandeau' The popular headache band of last year moves from above the bangs and becomes a "heart ban deau," a beauty ribbon of softly waved hair caressing the face along "the hairline, giving the rEs. The movement of the hair is from the back of the head for ward in undefined waves. Re sulting in an airy and light ef fect, but controlled and well groomed. Waves . Hair at the nape moves for ward and upward in soft waves to within an inch of the hairline at the sides of the face. Then the wave pattern follows the contour of the face, caressingly along the hairline. Hair at the top of the crown moves forward in various wave patterns depending upon require ments of the individual. The length of the new styles will continue to be short, tapered for the required silhouette. Color Color will be all important In the spring picture. It will make each femme fatale more visible in a vivid, appealing, clean, cool brilliance. It must, however, be. profes sionally prescribed, whether a temporary toner or a permanent coloring, in order to achieve an exact blending to suit your par ticular needs. No one color will predominate this season, nor will any one tone be used exclusively on one hair style. In some colors, as many as six tones will be required to bring out an aura of subtle high lighting. Subtle Effects Bold streaking of previous sea sons is decidely out of the pic ture, being replaced with soft and subtle effects. Titian tones and warm reds will be the most popular colors. Honey blonde shades and natural looking blonde hair will vie with the red* in popuhtity. Darker tresses in the brunette groups will be flushed with a haze of lighter casts in the same color to give a heightened look. Emphasis is on the natural ef fect with an improvement on nature.
