There is one student who does keep one of these epistles to the imaginary. Ex cerpts have been taken from this feigned document by per mission and are presented here. The diary shall be called "Percy." Dear Percy, My name is Freshman. Having just been thrown into the campus cage post-adoles cently, I am by instinct supposed to know the first day exactly what questions to ask my advisor and what courses to take, after all who would not know after reading the catalogue? My study must be by vocatin as established by the ones who have gone before me and by au thorities on higher education. I heard a Big Brother once say that It was uncommonly known as "horizontal stuffing." He Is always saying witty things al though I do not understande his cynical attitude toward every thing. It is the way a college stu dent should be; I guess it gives one &an objective view point of the white washed facades. All these intellectual topics and nomenclature the Big Brothers use! Cosmetics Brig. New Specialty By PENNY SINCLAIR Special Writer Want to have that special look for Valentine's Day? In cosmetics the light look is the right look. Lighter shades with emphasis on the eyes dominates the make-up scene this spring. The new, subtle look calls for new cosmetic shades. Light, soft ened shades with lighter founda tions create a natural appear ance in make-up. In lipsticks, orange, pink, and blue tones are becoming popular. To soften colors a white lip stick Is worn under reds, and a neutral shade under orange. Lipstick In order to wear the best colors in make-up, choose shades which blend with your wearing apparel. Anyone, according to beauty con sultants, can wear any shade of lipstick. Blue-red shades go well with pinks; coral or clear red with green; and orange-brown tints with brown. Most shades go well with black, while clear reds com pliment pastels. Tinted make-up, though, is bought to blend with the Individual complexion. - To complete the light look, more emphasis is placed on the eyes. By doing so, the light, nat 'iral look is complimented and attention taken from the lips. Eyeshadow In addition to mascara and eye brow pencil, more eye liner and tinted eyeshadow are used. Blue seems to be quite popular in eye shadow, as well as green and brown. Eyebrows are shorter and fullar, while not quite so dark. Plucking is not recommended, al though an arch near the end of the eyebrow is used. After appli cation of cosmetics the eyebrows should be brushed to remove any traces of foundati6n cream or powder and to leave them with a lustrous look. Here's a tip for girls with glasses - the eyebrows should be seen above your frames. Cleaning The only way to have a beau 'tiful complexion is through daily ritualistic care, for the founda tion of this lovely complexion is clear, well-groomed skin. Cleaning with a cold cream, stimulating with a freshner, and lubricating with a night cream helps to keep the skin clean, fresh, and soft. The foundation in make-up then provides protection for the skin. A moisture lotion under the foundation and a little rouge serve to create the light look along with powder, lipstick, and eye make-up. A balanced diet, eight hours of sleep per night, and proper exer cise, in addition to daily cleansing and application of cosmetics cre ates a clear complexion and beau tiful, smooth skin. THE GIRL I LEFT BEHIND ME It happens every day. A young man goes off to college leaving his home-town sweetheart with vows of eternal love, and then he finds that he has outgrown her. What, in such cases, is the honorable thing to do? Well sir, you can do what Rock Sigafoos did. When Rock left Cut and Shoot, Pa., he said to his sweetheart, a simple country lass named Tess d'Urbervilles, "My dear, though I am far away in college, I will love you always. I will never look at another girl. If I do, may my eyeballs parch and wither, may my viscera writhe like adders, may the moths get my new tweed jacket!" Then he clutched Tess to his bosom and planted a final kiss upon her fragrant young skull and went away, meaning with all his heart to be faithful. But on the very first day of college he met a coed named Fata Morgana, a girl of such sophtistication, such poise, such .avoir faire as Rock had never beheld. She spoke knowingly of Frans Kafka, she hummed Mozart, she smoked Marlboros, the ciga rette with better "makin's". Now, Rock didn't know Frans Kafka from Pinocchio, or Mozart from James K. Polk, but Marlboros he knew full well. lHe knew that anyone who smoked Marlboros was modern and advanced and as studded with brains as a ham with cloves. Good sense tells you that you can't beat Marlboro's new improved filter, and you never could beat Marlboro's fine flavor. Th'lis Rock know. So all day be followed Fata around campus and listened to her talk about Franz Kafka, and then in the evening he went back to the dormitory and found this letter from his home.town sweetheart Tess: Dear Rock, Us kids had a keen tim,e yesterday. We went dotwn to the pond and caught some frogs. I caught the most of anybody. Then woe hitched rides on trucks and did lots of nutay stuf like that. Well, I mus5t close now because I gQt to whitetwash the fensce. Your friend, Tess P.S. . .. I can do my hlula hloop S,000) times. Well sir, Rock thought about Tess and then he thought about Fata and then a great sadness fell upon him. Suddenly he knew he had outgrown young, innocent Tess; his heart now belonged to smart, sophisticated Fata. .Rock, being above all things honorable, returned forthwith to his home town and walked up to Tess and looked her in the eye and said manfully, "I do not love you any more. I lov a.girl named Fata Morgana. You can hit me in the stomach with all your might if you like." "That's okay, hey," said Tess amiably. "I don't lovyo neither. I found a new boy." v o "What is his name?" asked Rock. "Franz Kafka," said Tess. "A splendid fellow," said Rock and shook Teas's hand and they have remained good friends to this day In fact,Ro n Fata often double-date with Franz and Tees and havel haps of fun. Franz can do the Hula Hoop 6,000 times. Oass Massa..... MAWe i that end W*I- lwg,Philip Morris. PhlIt natural tobacco. byteeau pl h make et sbopeag
