These seniors have "made the rounds" in their years at Carolina, beating every team in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and several out --or conference foes including Tex ats, Georgia, Wofford and Furman. In 1957 he itarted several games at right end, )ut a leg injury slowed him some vhat. Finished Spring Practice at first mit right end. His father is an issistant coach at Carolina. Eddie captained the '54 Dreher team, and was named to all-city and All-State teams. He earned a letter here at Carolina in 1956, and shared one of the regular end positions in '57. BOBBY BUNCH, quarterback Bobby was a standout in prep foot ball at Summerville High School, making the Class B All-State teams in 1952 and 1953. He was selected to play in the high school North-South All-Star gam6 in Co lumbia in 1954. Bobby quarterbacked the 1954 freshman team, and In '55 moved )ORS, INC. He "red shirted" in 1956, and took over the starting duties last year. He guided the team to three victories in four starts before a shoulder injury put him out for the rest of the season. KING DIXON, halfback-King established a legendary career at Laurens High. He was voted a prep All-Southern and All-Ameri can in 1954. He was voted the most outstanding player in the Shrine Bowl in 1955. While in high school, King held the Class A 100-yard dash record of 9.9 seconds. After a brilliant freshman season, King was a start ing left halfback and led the team with 655 yards. He also was a topnotch pass re ceiver and did a great deal of the team's punting. King also com petes on the track team, and last year finished second in the state meet In the 220-yard dash, and third in the 100-yard dash. JOHNNY DORSETT, halfback He was a All-City choice at Ens ley High School in Birmingham, where he was the team's captain in 1954. Dorsett was on the second unit at Carclina as a soph and gained 170 yards rushing. Last fall he was injured and was out for the season. He was married In June to the former Miss Martha Rey nolds. CORKY GAINES, guard-Was a standout guard at Fayetteville, N. After a year with the freshmen, Corky joined the Marines where he played football at Parris Island and Hawaii. He returned to Carolina in 1956. Gaines was the regular left guard this season. He in majoring in Physical Education. TEDDY GIRARDEAU, tackle Ted, a 240-pounder, comes from Barnwell, S. C., where he played his high school ball. He was cap tain of his team in 1954, and was selected on the All-State team. His father played football at Carolina in 1914. Girardeau play ed in several games this season, and proved himself invaluable in scrimmage games and practices. ALEX HAWKINS, halfback - "The Hawk" hails from South Charleston, West Virginia, where he captained his football, baseball and basketball teams. He broke into the starting lineup as a soph and has never missed a starting assignment. Hawkins has been chosen on the 1958 All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as a first-string halfback, and chances are excellent that he might make All-American. DWIGHT KEITH, center-At tended Northaide High School in Atlanta, and later Baylor prep school in Chattanooga, Tenn. Keith lettered in 1956 at Carolina and started several games last year. His father is editor and publisher of "Coach and Athlete" magazine dealing with the coaching profes. sion. JOHN KOMPARA, tackle-He has been cited as being potentially one of the nation's finest lines men. He was an All-American High School player in Cinton, Ohio. He played In the Ohio North South All-Star game in 1954. He played, on the second-unit position in 1956, and was the regular right tackle lasi season. He turned in many fine perform ances this season, playing behind All-Conference selection Ed Pitts. BUDDY MAYFIELD, end - Hails from Atlanta, Ga., and at tended Bass High School where he was a student in football and track. He was the state 440-yard dash champion for two years, and cap tained his 1954 football and bas ketball team. Mayfield was a regular end on the 1955 freshman team, played a little on the '56 varsity and lettered last year at left end. His tremendous speed is evi denced by the fact that he has been the State 440-yard dash champ for two straight years, and has been runner-up in the 440 at the ACC meet for the past two years. He also holds the state 220 yard dash title. JIMMY MERCK, guard--.Was an All-State choice for Liberty Nigh School In 1954, and was cap tain of his team that season. He enrolled In Carolina In 1955 and was the starting guard on the freshman team. Last year he was the second-unit right guard. Merck is the smallest lineman on the varsity roster. His brother, Hugh, was a tackle on the 1953 and 1955 CarolIna teams. DON ROGERS, tackle-Don was an All-County and All-Metropoli tan at Columbia High School in Maplewood, N. J. LAWTON ROGERS, center Rogers was a Class AAA All State choice at Conway High School in 1954 and was named to the All-Southern squad. He was also a standout student, being a member of the National Honor So ciety and Business manager of the school's yearbook. Rogers was captain of the 1954 football team and 1954 and 1955 golf teams. He shot in the high 70's then but hasn't played much since enrolling at ' Carolina.
