The trio which must carry mo! of the assistant's load are Harr son (Chief) Nesbit, Tom Berr and Joe Palumbo. Nesbit, who was promoted froi freshman coach to varsity lir coach this year, and assistant lir coach Palumbo are both formc guards who entered Virginia aftc starring at Greenbrier Militar School. Neshit won four varsit letters from 1947-50, put in on year as an assistant at the Un versity of Chattanooga and w held freshman coach four season Palumbo, a native Pennsylvai ian, is rated one of the finest lin< men to ever perform for the Cavt Hers. He achieved All-America honors in 1951 when he captaine the Cavaliers through an 8-1 set son. During his three years vai sity tenure Virginia fashioned a enviable 23-5 record. Berry, who like Neshit is a nt tive of Lynchburg, was a lettei winning fullback in his first vai sity season (1950). lie became regular defensive halfback the fo lowing year. After two years wit the Marines he returned for hi final football campaign in 1954. Last year he served as parl time assistant while attendin graduate school. He became a ful time backfield coach this fall, an devotes most of his time to drillin Cavalier backs on defense.
