As he stood before the bench, the color of his nose was evident to all spectators. His attorney rose. "Look at the defendant," he said. "Can you honestly say he looks like a man who would sell whiskey if he had it?" It took the jury less than one minute to bring a not guilty verdict. Economics Cony. Nov. 16 and 17; USC Represented Dean S. M. Derrick, Prof. James A. Morris, Prof. A. C. Flora, Jr., and perhaps others of the depart ment of economics will attend a meeting of the Southern Economics association in Knoxville, Tenn., on Nov. 16 and i, Dean Derrick said today. Some of the topics to be discussed are "Monopoly and Economic Sta bility," Monetary-Fiscal Policies and Economic Stability," and gen eral regional economic problems. One feature of the meeting will be an addi ess on economic develop ment by Robert D. Calkins, vice president and director of the Gen eral Education Board. The delegation from the univer sity will at this meeting extend an invitation to the association to meet at the university sometime during the sesquicentennial celebration. German Univ. Needs Books Berlin Free University has is sued a call to the students of the university for textbooks for its pro posed new library. The German university wants modern lbooks in the fields of law, medicine, engineering, architecture, dentistry, philosophy, psychology, literature, sociology, economics, political sciences, history, anthro. pology, physical sciences, and astronomy. The books will be used by the 6,000 students attending the Free University which was established when division of Berlin placed Ber lin University in the Soviet zone. Students or instructors interested in sending books to the Free Uni versity should send a list of their books with author, title, publisher, and publication date to the Na tional Conference of Christians and Jews, Inc., 381 Fourth Ave., New York 16, N. 'Penny Wise' Readied For Town Theater's November Production "Penny Wise," the rollicking tale of a housewife who attempts to thwart her husband's philandering, will be the second production of the Columbia Town theater for the current season, according to Direc tor Gene Crotty. Anderson Says Now Time To Enter NROTC "Now is the time to apply for training in the Naval Reserve Of ficers Training Corps," Captain Anderson, commanding officer of the NROTC here, says. There are 1800 openings in either the navy or the Marine corps. Applications must be in by November 17, 1951. Applicants may apply for regular or contract training. Both regular and contract students must take a four-year course to be eligible for Naval training. Regular NROTC students will have their tuition, the cost of text books, and laboratory and other fees of an instructional or ad ministrative nature paid for by the Navy and $50 monthly allowance. High school graduates or those who expect to graduate in June, 1952, and students presently en rolled in college may obtain further information from Anderson's office in Hamilton. J. Fedder, chief justice, announced. Each member of the Wig and Robe is assigned three freshmen to whom he gives advice on methods of legal study, preparation of cases for classes, and methods of study ing for exams.
