ANN READY, KD, visited Clemson weekend before last to attend the Clemson-P. C. game and dance. GINNY STEVENSON, Tri-Delt, and RUTH STONE, Tri-Delt alum, went to Charlotte the weekend of the Duke game to a Bachelor's Club dance and buffet supper. Partying after the game Saturday night were the Sigma Nu's and dates at the Bamboo House. Also the Kappa Sigs, but it doesn't say where. What's a-matter, fellows? Present at this gathering of the clan were Johnny Morris, Ft. Jack son boy, Frannie Talbert, and Clarence Brown, now work ing in Greenville. Not to be outdone, the Pi Kappa Phi's also had a party Friday night. This one was held at Hendricks' Landing. JIM LIEBY was welcomed by the Kappa Sig's to the uni versity last Monday night. Jim is now a graduate student who was graduated from Wofford. JO ANN SPROTT, NANCY GARY, and LAURIE WAN NAMAKER, all KD's, visited a Kappa Delta chapter at Birmingham Southern last weekend. Another dance tonight sponsored by the Pep Club. Let's all go; see who the top six candidates for Homecoming Queen are. The Sigma Nu's will be off again on another party to morrow night. This one will be after the game at the Pine wood Club. Kappa Delta's JEAN SHARPE and BETTY BEL LINGER welcomed cadets BUBBER BRUNSON and JOHN SCOTT of The Citadel who were here for the game. They just can't stay away (but who wants to). Sigma Nu's returning to watch the game last week were CLARKE and AL ADICKES, AL FISHER, and HOWARD HOUSE. Chi Omega is having a campus-wide drop-in from 8-9 on Sunday in the sorority room. Sigma Chi's partied at Edens' Lake of alum John E. Edens. CARL SCHWARTZ, social chairman, was in charge of the bonfire, hot dogs, and potato salad which about 35 couples enjoyed. CHARLIE MERRITT played the accordian, accompanied group singing and the singing of the "song fest songs." Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Johnson were chaperones. JOE and ANN (BATES) FOSTER were up for the game last Saturday. They are now residing in Greenville. JACKIE GODBOLT was up visiting her sister, LUCIE GODBOLT. Other former Carolina girls up for the last weekend were: CAROLYN MONROE, HELEN SHEALY, MARY LEE PEND ER, CAROLYN DABBS MOORE, SHERA LEE EL LISON, DOLLY STEINBERG, BARBARA DRAKE BEN NETT, LOUISA LOVELACE, and SARAH BRASWELL. ChiO alums MABEL PACE and BETTY WARREN were here for the weekend. Pi Phi's celebrated MARTHA WOODALL's birthday last Wednesday in KITTY WILSON's apartment in Cornell Arms. Those making up the party were ETHEL MATTHEWS, BETTY KENDRICK, MARIA MITCHELL, ANN CAR LISLE, JEANNETTE DICKSON, PATSY HUTTO, and BETSY THOMAS. LEXIE STOKES and LAMAR COLLIE were up for the game. They have set the date for December 23. BETTY KENDRICK, Pi Phi, was visited this weekend by BLAIR GRAHAM from Clemson. BETTY FRAZER, Pi Phi alum, was up for the weekend. Pi Phi's having birth days last week were BETSY THOMAS and ANN CAR LISLE. TOM CURRAN, Carolina alum, is spending the week in Columbia visiting LYNN EPPS. STANLEY PEARLMAN is planning to journey to Van derbilt University in Nashville to see SANDRA KARESH this weekend. RHEATTE and SAM SOROTA are the proud parents of a brand new son. The following schedule will be followed: Lambda Chi Alpha on October 29, Pi Kappa Phi on the thirtieth, Phi Epsilon Pi on the thirty-first, Sigma Alpha Epsilon on November 1, Phi Sigma Kappa on the second, Kappa Sigma on the fifth, Phi Kappa Sigma on the sixth, Sigma Nu on the seventh, Sigma Chi on the eighth, Kappa Alpha on the ninth, Pi Kappa Alpha on the twelfth, and Alpha Tau Omega on the thirteenth. Alpha Kappa Psi Holds Founder's Day Banquet Alpha Kappa Psi commerce fra ternity will hold its annual Found er's day banquet on October 5, at the Bamboo House at Five Points. Plans for the event were discussed at the Tuesday night meeting. Speakers will be included in the program of the celebration. Plans for the pledging of new members were also drawn up at the meeting. Bill Spencer, a member whose fraternal and college life was interrupted by military serv ice, was welcomed back by mem bers of the fraternity. Alpha Kappa Psi is said to be the oldest commerce fraternity in the United States. Lutherans Plan Skating Party Billy Johnson, president of the Lutheran Student Association, an nounces that the skating party that was to have been held last Wednes lay, September 26, has been post >oned. The party will take place )ctober 10, at seven-thirty at the _olumbia Roller Rink. The association held a meeting Wednesday at 7:30 at the Lutheran Student Center at which time the aims and goals of the organization were discussed. All students, who are members of the Lutheran Church and those who are interested in joining, are invited. Panhellenic Changes Date Coed Rush Week By NORMA BERGMAN Rush week for coeds will bc sometime. That is the latest word from the Panhell Council. Diffi culty in finding a date that doesn't conflict with any other previously scheduled function has necessitated the changing of dates. To be eligible for Rushing, a coed must have a 5.000 average on her major subjects (3 credits) and carry at least 12 credit hours excluding band, physical education, etc. There will he no registration fee paid by the rushee. The formal Panhellenic tea has been removedl from the Panhellenic calendar. Coeds will register in the p)ost office lobby with Panhellenic couna cil at a date to be announcedl later. The dance is to be campus wide and is scheduled to last fron nine until one. Clarence Brazell and his thirteen-piece orchestra will furnish the music. The Field House will be the location for the affair. The top six contenders for the crown in the Homecoming Queen contest will be recognized. The tickets will cost $1.50, either stag or drag. The Furman student body has been invited through a letter to the editor of the school paper. Although the number of students turning out for the last dance was not as great as possible, it was enough to encourage the holding of Report On Kappa Delta Convention Given By Ready Ann Ready, president of Kappa Delta Sorority, reported on her trip to Pasadena, Calif., on Sep tember 24 as a delegate from Beta Zeta Chapter to the 1951 Kappa Delta Convention. At this convention, Mrs. Julia Fuqua Ober of Norfolk, Virginia, who was National Editor from 1945 to 1951, was elected to a four-year term as national president. She suc ceeded Miss Elizabeth Winston Lanier of Petersburg, Virginia. Mrs. Harry Riddle of Blooming ton, Illinois, was elected national treasurer, and Miss Frances No rene Ahl of Glendale, California, was re-elected national chapterian. Mrs. R. W. Campbell and Mrs. Mildred Sears Cromwell will con tinue in the capacities of national vice-president, and national secre tary, respectively. Awards were a highlight of the convention. Helen Coggeshall Wins McKissick Scholarship Award Helen Coggeshall, (laughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Coggeshall of Darlington, S. C., has been notified by President Norman Smith that she was chosen to receive the Mc Kissick Scholarship Award for the year 1951-52. Helen won the award in 1950 as a result of her excellent high school record. Due to her proven abilities in leadership, scholarship, and participation in many college activities, she has earned the award again. Helen is the secr-etary of Kappa Delta Sor ority, president of Co-ed, a cheer leader, and a member of the Honor Council, among other activities. A pep rally will be held at 6:30 on Friday night. The Pep Club is attempting to obtain a mascot to be shown at the game. We have not had a mascot for two years, since the death of "Snuffy." Pep Club is submitting member ship applications in the post office next week. In order to be eligible for membership, one must be a sophomore and have been here a year. The purpose of the organiza tion is to create school spirit, and back the teams whenever and wherever they play. The club sponsors half-time activities. Pub licity for all events is handled. The Pep Club is the successor to the Booster Club. Pi Beta Phi Nite Celebrated Mary Bloodworth, president of Pi Beta Phi, has stated that Pi Phi nite was celebrated at Joe Patrone's last Monday night at 7 o'clock. This affair is given an nually by the coach of the Pi Beta Phi Powder Bowl team. Besides winning the Powder Bowl game last year, Pi Phi's took top honors for stunt night, homecoming queen, homecoming display, Miss Garnet and Black, one of the top three in the May Court, three members of Who's Who, and Sigma Chi Derby Day. The Sigma Chi's presented the sorority with a bronze derby just before the drop-in on September 23. Pi Beta Phi's housecleaned last Saturday afternoon. Plans are be ing made for redecoration. Kappa Delta Has National Visitor Miss Ruth Spurgeon, Kappa Delta Central Office Secretary, visited Beta Zeta at USC, from September 26 to 28. Miss Spurgeon received her B.S. degree in Political Science at Northwestern Univer sity, where she became a member of Kappa Delta. She served as activities chairman and president of the Lambda Chapter at North western. For two years she was graduate counselor of the Pi Chap ter at the University of Nebraska and received her M.A. degree in Political Science from Nebraska in 1949. Miss Spurgeon's home-town is Louisville, Kentucky. She is espe cially interested in sports, tap dancing, journalism, and debating. After leaving USC, Miss Spur goon flew to UNC where she will visit the Kappa Deltasm at Chapel Hill.
