Taking in the dance 'last weekend at Vinthrop College were (count 'em, they all went)': Phi Sigs~andall Bryant, Tommy Talley and B. D. Caughman; AD Pis Jackie Ricks and Eugenia Holliday; Pi KAs Cecil Ward, Jack Hardee, Cur tis Williamson and Jim Stuckey; and, of course, the Sigma Nus Louis Haigler, Hootie Johnson, Jerry Blackmon, John Smith, Bobby Pitts, and Bob Smith. The Pi Kappa Phis had a weiner roast Monday night at Pine Island. Among those present were B. J. McLean (ADPi) and Craig Blackmon; Lexie Stokes (Pi Phi) and Lamar Col lie; Mary Berry with Gene Woodward; Phyllis Goodale and Johnny Castriners; Sylvia Berry with Buster Brown; and Frances Plyler and Bill Wilkinson. Anne Cooke of Myrtle Beach, and a Carolina graduate, married Jack Hendrix of Charlotte last Saturday at the Methodist Church in Myrtle. Carolina students traveling tc be there were "Bunchie" Weeks, KD; Sylvia Kelly, Nona McClure, Mary Hoyt Timmerons, and Margaret Ann Ever ton who sang at the wedding. Sigma Nus entertained guests Saturday night with a dance party at the West Columbia Legion Club. Jean Strickland and Harriet Tinnsley, AD Pis, are going to West Point for a dance. Some trip, but who wouldn't? Another KD engaged. Ann Gross is engaged to Bill Jolly, a graduate of Presbyterian College. B. J. McLean, Alpha Delta Pi, went to PC for a dance last weekend. Tonight is the Kappa Delta dance. You people stay here this weekend. Sue Fulmer, ADPi, is now Mrs. Iven Bouknight. Saturday, Feb. 17, is the day she'll always remember. KAs Bill Penn, David Thackston and Andy Gary and dates partied last weekend at Lake Murray. Phi Epsilon Pi held its annual banquet and dance last Friday night at the Plantation supper club. The going-ons were in honor of the actives, pledges, rushees and alumni. Prof. Samuel Litman and wife were the chaperones. This one I like: "K. A.s had a good one Friday night at IHenry's." Sigma Nus pepped themselves up with a drop-in at Dave Parrish's home. Guy Nichols was recently initiated into Sigma Nu. Ann Roberts, ZTA, and Reginia Owens, AD P1, each won the "best pledge" cup in their respective sororities. Julia Walker, Pi HI, ia wdarint'a diamond now. Jim Smith of Spartanburg is the guy. Zeta Tau Alpha alums gave a little party in the chapter room Monday night after meeting in honor of the newly initiated. -Betty MacDonald of Florence and Burt Neal Anderson, KA alum, were married in Florence recently. They are now living in Mullins. Sarah Dixon, Pi Phi, was there for the wed ding. Also, Betty Cameron, Pi Phi alum, and Brooks Harri son, KA alum. KAs Johnny Thorn and George Henry went to PC Sat urday. The Phi Kaps had a fatback fry Thursday night at Sun View Lake. Must have been great fun for they are having a combination hayride-fatback fry tomorrow night. Raymond Rosen.blum, Phi Epsilon Pi alum, was in town last weekend for the Phi Ep dance and banquet. Raymond is now at the Medical College in Charleston. Hymie Fechter, another alum, wab also present for the occasion. Pi Kap Jimmy Smith was in Raleigh last week for the Southern Conference Swim Meet. All sorts of national visitors here this week. Delta Zeta was visited by their Executive secretary, Irene C. Boughton, Alpha Delta Pi was hostess to Miss Sue Jones, their traveling representative. And the Phi Kappa Sigma played host tc Micheau Crocker, a member of the national executive board from Greensboro, N. C. Law Federation took time out for a dance at the V.F.W. Club Wednesday night. P1 Kappa Alpha is having its formal dance, annual ban quet, etc., the weekend of March 15 and 16. And that is all for this week. Thanks for all that informa tion willingly sent and brought. Air Force R( Performs Bril Something new has been added to the university in the way of an Air Force ROTC band. This 29 piece organization made its first public appearance at the Powder Bowl game Feb. 15. Organization of the band, under the guidance of Lt. Col. Herbert E. Sears, professor of air science and tactics, began last semester. "The band has been an important addition to the Cadet Corps, and I am very well pleased with its progress," Col. Sears said. "Its memherR Are to be commended for their outstanding interest and achievement," he added. "The Air Force authorizes a cadet corps with over 300 enroll ment to have an 18-piece band," Col. Sears said, "but many of our boys have their own instruments, thus enabling us to have a larger band." The band is divided into four sections: clarinets, headed by Sel wyn W. Lomas, freshman, of Co lumbia; bass section, headed by William Mack, sophomore, of Fort Mill; trumpets, directed by John H. Belk, sophomore, of Fort Mill; and drum section, headed by Eu gene Brantley, freshman, of Co lumbia. Cadet Ccn Rabon, senior from Aynor, is in charge of the band. Cadet Francis M. Rast, sophomore, from Manning, is drum major. Directors of all four sections, the band director, and drum major have had band experience in high school, and several of them have dance band experience. The band's uniform is the Air Force officers green, with four Alpha Delta Pi Holds Initiation F:or Ten Pledges Alpha Delta P1, social sorority, held initiation of fall pledges Sun day, February 18. An Initiation banquet wvas held afterwards at the Green Derby restaurant. Re gina Owens was presented with a cup for "best pledges." The new initiates are: Jane Rutland, Alken; Jane Elliott, Greenville; Charlene Cain, Walterboro; Susan Forrest, Aiken; Kay Gavin, Columbia, Nor ma Henderson, Columbia; Pat Da vis, Georgetown; Lee Hood, Gads den, Alabama; Marvis Jean Keels, Timmonsville, and Martha Ann Campbell, Fairfax. The next official appearance of the band will be on station WUSC March 21 from 10 until 10:30 p. m., when they will broadcast for the WUSC talent show. At present, the band is preparing for the an nual General inspection, when, along with the Cadet Corps, they will be reviewed by the inspector general of the 14th Air Force. Members of the bass section are Cadets William E. Skinner, John W. Jackson, William Mack, William R. Todd, Jr., and Burney L. Black well. With the reed section, including clarinets and saxaphones, are Cadets James H. Ruffin, George E. Molnar, William F. Hardin, Jr., Ares L. Artemus, John Q. Adams, and Selwyn W. Lomas, clarinets; and in the saxaphone section are Cadets John T. Mauldin, Jr., Fred E. Buck, Jr., Eugene M. Easter ling, and Thomas S. Baldwin. Members of the trumpet section are Cadets James M. Bessinger, Clyde D. Thackston, Jack L. Simon, William E. Brown, Gerald E. Con ner, Marchant L. Lesley, Ronnie D. Skenes, and John H. Belk. Included in the drum section are Cadets Carey W. SAE Weekend Dance, Banquet Plans Completed Sigma Alpha Epsnton is com pleting plans for an "SAE Week end" to celebrate the ninety-fifth anniversary of the founding of the fraternity.
