Wood of At lanta, Georgia, visited the local chapter last week. Wood talked to the newly organized fraternity at tli roguiai meeting. He gave them some pointers on how the or ganization functions at other col letges in this section of the country. Psychology Native Of W By RUDY THIGPEN Roy E. Burbage, junior in the sch'ool of arts and sciences, came a long way to attend the university -all the way from the Netherlands West Indies in fact. This group of islands is just off the voast nf Snit Ameri in the Caribbean sea. The jsf that Roy calls home is Aruba, one of the southernmost of the group, just 18 miles from Venezuela. Aruba, only 19 miles long and five miles wide, is the site of the largest oil refinery of its type in the world. Roy's father is a super intcndent in one of the three major divisions of the refinery. Roy was born in Charleston but moved to Aruba in 1936. He at tended school there until 1942, when he came back to the United States for two years. He returned to Aruba in 1944 and entered Lago high school. This school is owned and operated by the American colony on the island. He was grad uated in 1948. One of his friends in high school was a native of Texas, and upon graduation persuaded Roy to go to Texas to college with him. In the fall of 1948, they matriculated at Texas A&I. A professor of English at North- f western university reports that more Northwestern women smoke than do men. A survey revealed that 60 per cent of the girls smoke, as opposed to 52 per cent of the men. A further increase in womer. smokers, warns the professor, will drive the American male, who is sensitive about his masculinity, to cutplug and marijuana. Of the eight schools on the most popular at the present, i is the college of arts and science with 588, and the graduate school with 451. The school of education is fourth with 397 students, of whom 213 are men. In the school of engineering there are 312 men and one woman. The field of phar macy has attracted 152 men and five women to the university. The law school has 169 students, of whom four are women. The school of journalism is at present the smallest on the campus with a total of 74 students, 58 men and 16 women. The number of veteran students has decreased since the fall semes ter because the G.I. Bill is running out, but there are still 848 veterans, 824 men and 24 women. In the graduate school, the edu cation department is the largest with 333. History and English fol low with 25 and 17. There are 15 students in the psychology depart ment, 14 in the field of social work, and 12 in biology. Other depart ments in the graduate school in clude chemistry, accounting, eco nomics, mathematics, languages, geology and art in the order of popularity. Field classes of the Extension Division have attracted 2650 per sons, 1700 women and 850 men. Sixty-six men and 91 women are taking correspondence courses and in the night school there are 351 men and 165 women. Of these night school students 44 are also in day school. Art Department Has New Exhibit The art department of the uni versity, headed by Prof. Edmund Yaghjian, is now sponsoring an ex hibit in Maxcy college lobby. This exhibit has been on display since Feb. 7 and will remain there until Feb. 21. Students as well as the general public are invited to look at the works.
