Engagements and wedding announcements are always in order and we have our share this week. Sigma Nu David Par rish married Loi4 thers of Rock Hill between semesters. Chi 0 alums Jo' an euren and "Dool" Coskrey will marry Frank Floyd, Sigma Nu alum, and Howard Vinson, Sigma Alpha Epsilon alum, respectively. Also Marcia Richards, DZ alum, who is engaged to Robert Ballentine. Housepartying between semesters were the Sigma Nus and their dates. Al Fisher and Betty Kendrick, Pi Phi; Bay ard Pickett and Katherine Stone, Tri Delt ; Bob Wright with Sophia Milling, Tri Delt ; Jerry Blackmon and Irene Herty, KD; Frank Tobin with Louisa Lovelace, KD; Lockheart Mc Lendon and "Chick" Martin, KD; Henry Dorn with Ann Lorick, ZTA; Mort White with Evelyn Marshall, Tri Delt; Joe Sauitz (KA) and Pinky Riley, Chi 0; and Billy Houck with Helen McLeod, Tri Delt. Just for the ride, Willie and Sara Braswell, Raymond Turgeon and Bob Sheridan took a joy ride to Spartanburg this weekend. Another one gone: Ray Currence, Sigma Nu, joined the paratroopers last week. He's stationed at Fort Jackson. Joan James, Kappa Delta, is pinned to Watson Chamber tain. Delta Tau Delta at the University of Temnessee. Happy voices from the P1 Phi room could be caused by the two new pledges, Barbara Young (transfer from Furman) and Betty Kendrick (transfer from Winthrop). Barbara calls Norfolk, Va., home while Betty claims Spartanburg. Gloria Hall, Pi Beta Phi, received a diamond from Lee Brinkley, Kappa Sigma. The date hasn't been announced yet. Sigma Nus partied last Saturday night at the Hollywood Club. That is, all but Louis Haigler and Hootie Johnson. They visited Sue Sutton and Perine Baker at Winthrop. Phi Epsilon Pis held a stag party, a smoker, Feb. 9 in the chapter room. After that excellent drilling last night, the KDs turn their thoughts to their dance which is March 2. Following that, the SAEs are having their spring formal the 10th. A little closer in the future, the Pi Phi pledges are giving a party for the actives tomorrow night at the Y Camp. A D Pi's Marviu Jean Keels and Eugenia Holliday at tended the dance at Clemson this weekend. Seen in Orangeburg over the weekend for the Dickson Mappus wedding were Nancy Hale, Lucy Easheed and Margie Lucas Yates. This organization has a number of openings in its theatre and staging, lighting, and make up, among other jobs open to those who do not wish to act. Joe Berry, Be Literary Society Incorporates New Plan For Debates The Clariosophie Literary So ciety held its second meeting Tues day evening with a debate and plans for this semester's speakers. The society has planned for this semester to have members of the House of Representatives and the South Carolina Senate to speak to the society. This will add to the many speakers and statesmen that have spoken before the society in the past 14S years of leadership in the literary field on our campus. Also to come before the society this semester is Capt. John Camp bell, member of the Air R.O.T.C. unit, faculty member at Carolina. The society, at the recommonda t:rn of Professor Merrill G. If you do, you must be a kinsman of his, for he is constantly on the go. Stradley is superintendent of buildings and grounds at Carolina. Over 46 acres of land are under Stradley's care, and also the sta dium and the Carovet apartments. One hundred and thirty employees are directly responsible to him. His staff includes electricians, plumb. ers, carpenters, maids, janitors, gardeners, a night watchman. and a steam plant engineer. There are 27 classroom and lab. oratory buildings, numer;us dor. mitories and other buildings at the University maintained by Stiadley and his force. To mention a few of their duties, they cut grass, con dition tennis courts, trim hedges, and plant trees. Stradley's force has just com pleted planting new trees abctit the campus, and also replacing the memorial trees on Pickens Street with bronze plaques.
