SOj "XI Jack Mitchell, Asheville sopi Enright's most pleasant surpris ute starter at right halfback' performance in that game. His to hang on to Boyle's passes. Sophomore Jack Birds Capable P By RICHARD DUNLAP When the Gamecocks oper the season against Baylor Univ sity this fall a surprise right ha back was inserted into the sta ing lineup in the naon Of je Mitchell, 5 ft. 11 in., 173 pou scatback. This move by he coach Rex Enright was undoubt( ly designed to give the Birds fast breakaway runner operati from both sides of the "T." In addition to being a spee shifty runner, Mitchell is cons ered to be one of the most capal receivers on the end of Big Jo Boyle's jarring passes, and anyc possessing this particular chars teristic is more than welcome the Carolina camp. Mitchell, who now has two yea on the Gamecock roost, hails fri Asheville, N. C., same town o of which came North Carolin Choo Choo Justice. He made name for himself in spring pri tice. His wide end sweeps a bursts through tackle were so: of the joys of the training sessi for USC coaches. When not in scrimmage he was probably fou jogging a few extra laps arou the football field, striving for b ter condition. A cool competitor, Mitchell, 1 Wadiak, likes to get a br glimpse through the line into i secondary. Once in an opponeri backfield he is a constant scori threat. From here on through i season it looks as if he willi heavy duty, because with Caroli facing its toughest schedule many years, the passing of Bo will have to be utilized more a more. So when John's pitech you'll more than likely find Jr Mitchell posted in the right hr back slot.
