Their other first place came in the standing broad jump. The winners had 26 points with second place going to Sigma Al pha Epsilon with 19. Sigma Nu was third with 16. Other teams and points were: Pi Kappa Phi, i 12; Kappa Alpha, nine; Lambda Chi Alpha, 5 and PI Kappa Alpha, & 8. Kappa Sigma, Phi Epsilon i Pi, Phi Kappa Sigma, Phi Sigma 1l Kappa, Pi Lambda Phi and Alpha Tau Omega failed to place. L'Artigue Riley of SAE took , individual honors with nine r points. He won first place in the h running broad jump and tied for first in the high jump. Bob Tin r dall of Sigma Nu was next with 73/4 points. Parrish and Stone of Sigma Chi were tied for third with 6 1/4 points each. r Winners in each of the events will be given key chain medals and the opportunity to -partici pate against the winners in the independent meet which Is being run off today. ROTC Rifle Teo In Hearst Trop The Carolina Naval R.O.T.C. rifle team placed 15th out of 71 competing schools in the recently completed Hearst Trophy Matches. The match was fired during the month of January at the univer sity and the scores forwarded. by mail for final tabulating. The matches, set up ley William Randolph Hearst to further arms competition among NROTC units, was won by the Ohio State team with a score of 893 out of a pos sible 1,000. The Carolina score was 852. Without leaving the campus the team has competed in 13 matches since November 21. Of these, they have wvon six and lost six. The other match has to be re peated due to a misunderstanding as to the number of shots to be fired. 'rhe trick to this kind of com petition is to use the United. States mails. Since funds are at a low ebb, "shoulder to shoulder" natches are impossible, so Marine M4ajor L4. D. Reid, team Coach, al ows his team to fire and ex ~hanges results with the compe ition. A mere comparison of the cores decides the winner. The University team started >y losing six of their first seven natches, but rallied to wvin the ast five.
