Carolina stu $3,000 of this sum. Universities, students, and pro fessors paid a heavy toll during the past war. To set those hit the hardest back on their feet, the World Student Relief was organ ized in 1943 to coordinate plans and policies for worldwide educa tional rehabilitation. The money raised by this na tional drive goes for medical aid to students ravaged by the war, scholarships to worthy students, administration expenses, student centers, sanatoriums, books, sup plies, anti other channels deemed worthy by the coordinators. Many students abroad are still ill, hungry, poorly clad, and dis couraged. It is to help them that USC students are asked to con tribute again this year as they did last. Carolina an Clemsog each took five first placei but the TiEt's superior strengtl in the second and third position proved to be the deciding factol in the meet. Carolina's - Leslie 'Boney .b,ok< the state low board diving recorc and completely dominated the div. ing 'events throughout the meet taking first place in both the higi and low board diving. Jess Tip. ping piled up 502.7 points to cap ture a third place in both the higt and low board events: Howar King, who took a first place po. sition in diving in the Clemsor meet, was unable to dive because of sickness. Derwin Lamb took first place ir the 150 yard back stroke and was also very impressive, in the 30C yard medley. Spruce McCain wor the 200 yard breast stroke in one of the most thrilling races of the meet. Marshall Upton and John Can tey again took points for Caro lina in the 200 and 400 yard freestyle events. Bill Wright swam in -the anchor slot in the 300 yard medley and provided the neces sary last lap spurt of speed to edge out Clemson's Martin. Bol Kay placed third in the 150 yard back stroke event, while Johnny James and Quitman .Marshall tied for third place in the 100 yard freestyle. Carolina swimmers ended thei current season with the state meet; however, the boys will prob ably continue to work out on theii relief measure 'for students ol past years,' but from what I car see it does practically nothing al all.
