Cross-Country Team Working Hard For Conference Meet Carolina's cross-country team is rounding out its second week of preparation for the Southern Con ference meet to be held in Raleigh, N. C., November 17. Jim Meri wether, student-coach, announced that the boys are working hard for the event and appear to be getting into good condition. Wayne Brackett, freshman from Florence, has emerged as one of the outstanding candidates, accord ing to Meriwether. Brackett was a stand-out member of Florence High School's track team last year, and won the 880-yard run with a time of 2:08 minutes. Other members showing promise are Hacky Walker, John McPher son, Sammy Dennis, and Foster Marshall. Red Coleman and Bill Jones are also looking good, but lack previous cross-country experi ence, Meriwether said. Scott To Miss Game Tonight Mitchell Scott, center for the Gamecock gridsters, will not be able to play in the Miami game tonight because of a pulled liga ment in his right knee. Scott was injured in the Clem son game after playing one of his best games of the year. A convert ed fullback, Scott is often sent into the lineup to replace Red Harrison while the Birds are on defense, as he is one of the squad's best line-backers. He should be back in shape by The Citadel game a week from today. AUTOMOBILES FOR RENT $5 per 24-hr. day Special Rates for Trips Renting hour-8 a. m., 'til 7 p. m.
