The Sesqui Centennial park, fa miliarly called "Sesqui" has proven itself to be the most popular stamping-ground for the majority of the student body in past years and has found a place in every body's heart as "the place to go in Columbia." In addition to numerous barbe cue pits, picnic grounds, and party facilities, Sesqui has a beautiful ball field, a dance patio with juke box music, a boat rental system, a beautiful lake for swimmers, and dressing rooms with checking system. At the time of the installation of the Carolina life guards, Mr. Holder said that "The price for admittance is absolutely free ex cept for the small charge of 25 cents for those who wish to swim. *his fee has been set up as a mini mum by the State Forestry Com mission for the purpose of help ing the park pay for its own up keep, and the money paid provides for the use of lockers, showers, checking facilities, swimming and the life guard protection." Mr. Holder further stated that "'she university student body plays a large part in the park's popularity and beauty. We want the students to feel frce to come out for recreatiQn any time that they wish, and all we ask is that they~ cooperate wvith Jess, Phil, Walter and Jack in keeping theI place in check. Everything has its purpose outs here and we want the Carolina students to come out and have a good time." And as a closing statement "Pop" affectionately remarked that "It's like having Carolina moved out here on the weekends and so far they have all been treating the park as if it wvas the old Gamecock roost itself. This Splace is their's and we want them to feel like its their's, and we want to thank them~ for their past co operation." This revenged a 23-4 set back the Gamecocks handed the Bulldogs earlier in the season. Home runs by Jim Pinkerton and Harry Parone gave the locals what looked to be a comfortable lead, Pinkerton's coming in the first inning with one on and Pa rone's in the fourth with the bases clear. Four singles, a home run, and two walks enabled the visitors to generate the six tallies and the margin of victory. Henderson ham , mered the four-bagger over the - left field fence with one team mate aboard. Charlie Long started on the mound for the birds but weaken ed in the sixth and was relieved in favor of Fred Snoddy who was 2 later pulled for a pinch hitter. >r Bo Hagan hurled the final frame, ;t allowing runners to reach base 1. but no one scored. is Shahid rationed six hits among f the Gamecocks and struck out ten of his opponents, but walked seven. d The Gamecocks were never able k to come through with men on base however, and many were left i- stranded. e Dean Padgett led the Gamecocks y at bat connecting for two hits out r of four trips to the plate. Parone a had one for three, that being his y round-tripper. t- This was the last home appear ie ance of the season for the Caro lina nine. Approximately 300 fans i- turned out to see the home team z- fall to the cadets, in a game that y found Coach Smith's nine fall y short the performances in their last several home games. The .. fieldin% was up to par, only one mn error being charged to Carolina, ,n but their hitting, especially in te crucial moments was below the Gamecock's usual pace. Long started off t1olding the situation well in hand until the fatal sixth. Previously he had shown good control and a lot of stuff on the ball. Fred Snoddy held the Bulldogs down during his stay on the mound and was relieved in the eight to let Red Harvin bat. Harvin got on base on the catcher's error, but was left stranded.
