Chick'en In The Rough By CHICK SHIELS Looks as though this Pi Beta Phi sorority has a pretty fair football team at many chapters. The latest reports tell us that the Miami University clan, situated at Oxford, Ohio, squeezed by the Tri Delt's 9-0 last Saturday afternoon be fore better than 2,000 fans in the Southwestern Ohio town. The game was not quite the spectacle witnessed here in the capital prior to the Clemson fray. A regulation field was discarded and only 60 yards were used. It will be remem bered that the match here saw the use of the entire grid. The gals at Miami evidently went the other direction on the "Powder Girl" act. Young gentlemen saw service as water boys lugging a medicine bag full of cosmetics. The more we hear of other -institutions working over this idea of a "Pow der Bowl," the more we are inclined to believe that our women footballers did the thing up really right. Miami Uni versity dubbed their battle the "Rouge Bowl." That is some variation! Would like to make one point clear to some. The Block "C" Dance, featuring Freddie Slack, presents a tariff of $2.40 for the bachelors and $3.60, entrance fee for the couples. Many have asked why the Block organization charges that much when some of the bands coming to the Township only rate $2.50. This tax of two-and-a-half repre sents the cost for one person, NOT a couple. If you plan to journey toward the Township, your total assessment will run about $4.50 to $5.00 for two, depending upon whether you purchased the ducket at the door or elsewhere. The Block "C" frolic is just about as cheap as you can run for top-flight entertainment. Speaking of Slack and his slickers, we bent an ear on a late recording of his entitled, "Your Conscience Tells Me." That is a well turned disc! A local apothecary had the maestro on wax, eminating from a very classy juke-box. The 'Gator Bowl Association will fly up to Charlotte on Thursday to present the Coach with the gifts merited by the 1945 Gamecock eleven. Last January 1st, the Birds met Wake Forest in Jacksonville for the first annual 'Gator Bowl affair. No immediate description of the individual presents could be obtained, but it was learned that each man on the travelling squad would receive an attractive tie clasp, prop erly engraved, etc. Those of the club who are now off the roost will gather their awards via mail. While said turkey is in the oven, the Birds will be in the process of climaxing their 1946 football season. The high flying, Demon Deacons from Wake Forest will be across the line. It is hard to predict and thoroughly analyze this com ing game. After the Duke drubbing, to celebrate Home coming, the populus is very prone to believe the lads in Gar net will fall again. We, however, do not think along such lines. As mentioned before, the charges of Enright & Co. can produce plenty of football. The bald-one looks for them to nail the Deacs down and proceed to the promised land. Physically, the team is much better off than before the Blue Devil fracas and will be set to work 60 full minutes so that YOU may have a shot from the Victory Bottle, Thurs day evening. Our vote of confidence is voiced more heartily than before. Get 'em, gang, get 'em!!!! Right OFF The Nest ."The Dog" Thornton and his play-mate, J. Meatball Meeks (of Meeks, Inc.), met the very famous St. Louis Cardi nal hurler, Kirby Higbe the other day in a local Sporting Goods shop . . . this Higbe lad is one of the better than average moundsmen . . . Understatement number two for the fiscal year . . . whilst on the subject of Thornton's friends, would like for the locals to note where Junior Meeks has received constant acclaim from the nations sports writers ..,. it seems that the "big-man" rates high up on the list of pivotmen in the land . . . those of us here, think the Macon Menace to be a good man to have "on hand" at center . .. it is sincerely h,oped that the student body will forego all jaunts over the Day of Thanks and seat themselves in the Memorial Stadium in Charlotte to cheer THEIR team on to a win . .. and so on this happy note, we ree-main yours very truly . .. unquote . . . adieu.... A Carolina victory would place the Garnet and Black in the run ner-up spot, however. Wake For est has dropped three games with in the conference, to N. C. State, North Carolina, and Duke. Wake Forest took that game by the score of 8 to 0. Since that opening game these two teams, have met sixteen additional times, with Wake Forest holding the edge in games won. The Deacons have triumphed eight times, the Birds won seven, and two have re sulted in ties. The largest score of the series was amassed by the Deacs in 1916, the year they walk ed off with a 33-0 verdict. The total score stands at 186-182 in favor of Wake Forest. A win this year would give the Gamecocks an even break in the series and their first victory over their rival since a 13-2 count in 1943.
