ON THE BALL Witi Ish Moore That Gamecock has finally gotten to work--Spring and spring sporti have come to Carolina ! The crack of the base ball bat is really in earnest now; the racket-teers aren't ping ing just for the fun of it any more: and the golfers aren't walking around the country club merely for exercise-there's plenty of competition for the Carolina athletes. Though the Catfish might not think so. the Diamond boys looked pretty good list week-end. even in losing those two games to the more-experienced Michigan State crew. Those first two games gave the Coach and players alike a good chance to adapt themselves and get things lined up for local Competition. This afternooni the squad packs ilp and moves over to the Fort for a tussel with the .Jackson team. 3oth gangs have something in common-losses to the Spartans. (and by the same score 9-6!). so it's a good bet that they'll be out for blood. Incident'ally, that double phaY at the begin- i ning of the ?'??? inning Fridav ft om Fountaii to Willis to Clark looked pretty snapp y from our "press-box" in the grandstands (Press Rox, that is. son-Of course, that iron fence we were sitting oi most of the game was ratiher tough on my poor feelings at the time.) Pinky Pintckerton showed plenty of the stuff ont the mound Satur<ay afternooti and ac tually had control of the situation with a victory inl sight un til a few costly errors pulled the game out of the bag for the - visitors. rhose Carolina Netmoen had nmhio fine luck downtt inl Ilap py luniting territory last FridaY as they 1brought back enough Tiger-skins to satisfV Gamecock fanIs fot (ite a while.
