Sho' nuff, though, things are kinda different with the gals. Pool Depending on the kind you mean, it's lots of fun-that is, both of them. The pool room offers oppor tunities plus. The game can usually be attempted by any one in their right mind, so that makes us elig able. Of course the way it's actually gone about is kinda pathetic, but everyone's there to learn. Mean while, everybody who happens to have landed in one of those swim ming classes splashes around in our super natatorium and uses up en ergy, vim, and vigor, but keeps cool, has fun, and is pretty much all wet (please, don't mind the kidding). Tennis First hand info let's us know that the classes are very interesting to watch, and it's not because of the way the co-eds play. They have a fine time chopping at the balls, though, and occasionally we even find some who know what they're doing. More power to 'em, and maybe there'll be some more in the ranks soon. Bowling Some of the more ambitious femmes journey on various after noons to the far-distant bowling alley (all of four blocks) to take courses in the art of kegling. The pins fall-sometimes-and the scores,' no matter how large (?), get racked up. and everybody has fun, so who cares about the rest anyway. What-Have-You All this just leaves the step children-ping-pong and badminton. Some few venture daringly into the ping pong room just to get evercise chasing balls under tables, etc., but it's usually more quiet than most of the rest of the Navy haunts. AS for badminton, we've yet to see any of that, but maybe there's still hope. Well, guess that's just about all the feline (b'g your pardon, female) sports, but mebbe we'll be seeing more of them (the girls or the sports?) from now on. How 'bout that, huh? DeMars Says Frosh In Better Condition Company formation, Hep! D-R-E-S-S right, dress! More than one civilian student has heard these words during his so journ at Carolina from Coach Frank DeMars, director of civilian physical training. Gradually Coach DeMars is add ing more and miore to the gym classes; and, according to the coach, the boys are standing tip to the training better than in previous rears. Coach DeMars attributes this increasedl stamnina to the govern nment-encouraged stepped up train inig in high school. Eventnally the students are expected to climb the rope from a sitting po<itim in ten ;econds. There's no better w%ay to develop the arm, shoulder, and hack muscles than rope climbing. The most fun for the boys is in the relay races, where the losing team cravls through a mild-belt line consisting of the opposing teams. Coach Dl ars usually goes through with the losing team. Both the Navy and the civilians are contribut ing to the squad and hopes are high for the combination.
