DeTreville Ellis, '10A, *11CE; is now on duty in the office of the 'Quartermaster General, War Department, Washington, D. C., as 'Deputy Director for contract ad justments. Rutledge, '09J, of Columbia, is attending the Adjutant General's School at Fort Washing ton, Md. Private Rutledge will ' be there eight weeks taking training in Army administrative training. M. Kershaw Walsh, '$4A, '27G. has recently been promoted to the rank of captain. He is chief of the pre-induction psychdlogical testing at Fort Jackson. Capiain Waish is at present, on a -leave of absence from Carolina where he is associate professor ofb psychology. . John Jay Gross, 'I9A, of Colum bia and Greenville, is now 'serving as American Red Cross Field Di rector at an airfield on the island-of Oahu in the Hawaiian islands. Un til he received his overseas assign ment, he served with the Red Cross in Columbia, Charleston and Camp Toccoa, Ga. Previously he was pro bation officer on the South Carolina State Probation and Parole 'Board, with headquarters in Columbia. 1930- 1939 Capt. 3. B. (Bubba) Ness, '3SC, *40L, who was recently wounded on the.Anzio beachhead, writes that he is improving rapidly and expects to be returned to the States in a few weeks.-. ' .William Bell Twitty, Jr., '37E, was recently graduated from the Engineer Officer Candidate School, Fort Belvoir, Va., an4i is now a second lieutenant in the Co'rps of Engineers. He has been overseas two years, having been stationed first in Eng land. He participated as pilot of a troop carrier group in the African, Sicilian and Italian . campaigns. Lieutenant Couch's duty concerns proper as signment of all 13th Air Force per sonnel.. He won his commission in December, 1942, and -has been over seas since December, 19'43. Holman, 'SA, '35L, member of the Lexington county legislative delegation, has resigned to accept a position with .a govern ment' war agency. Mr. Lucas, now assistant treasurer at Carolina, will report for active duty in August. Capt. John R. Timmons,. '36A, has recently been assigned to the staff of the Station Hospital at Rosecrans Field, St. Joseph, Mo. Captain Timmons was assistant res ident surgeon at the H..nr:" Ford Hospital in Detroit before entering the service in July, 1942. He served at Morrison Field, Fla., and has been in Brazil since November, 1942. Capt. William R. Geddings, '33J, of 'Columbia, now stationed at the Ieadquarters Ferrying division of the Air Transport Command, Cin cinnati, Ohio, has been comniended by the commanding officer of the ATC for "the superior manner" in which he conducted the receiit WAC recruiting publicity drive. Captain Geddings has charge- of ATC publicity programs over the entire United States. Before en tering the service he was executive director of the Columbia Federal Housing prdject. B. Johtn William Sholenberger, '32L, of- Columbia, who has served in the enlisted branch of the United States Navy since August of last year, has received his commission as .a lieu tenant junior grade. Lieutenant Sholenberger has been on duty at the Naval Station 'in Jacksonville, Fla., where he performed the duties of storekeeper third class. He will soon report to Hollywood, Fla., for hisi officer's indoctrination. liernard C. W. .Clark Brockmaei, '37C. has been appointed chairman of the .United China Relief for Richland county'. M'r. Brockman.is principal of McMaster and A, C. -Moore schools in Columbia. H-e wtas born in Kuling. China and lived there un til he was fourteen years old. He was educated in the United States, and spent some time in Belgium as Y.M.C.A. secretary with the Chinese Labor corps following the first World War. Mr. Brockman is chairman of' the Rich land couuty library board and of the county de fense recreation committee and a member of the Laurel Street U.S.O. board. 1940 - 1948 .Hubert C. Lieutenant Baldwit has ' been minister of the Presbyterian church at Moncks Corner. Lt. James L. Kendall, Jr., '43A, of Florence has been awarded the Air Medal -in the European theatre. Lieutenant Kendall is a P-47 fighter pilot based with the Ninth Air Force. Staff' Sgt. Harold C. Nesmith, '40A, of Kingstree, attached to a field artillery unit in Italy, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for herdic achievement in battle March 16. Sergeant Nesmith took 'part in the North African campaign as well as the Italian battles. Lt. (jg) Samuel F. Reynolds, Jr., '40Ed., of Greenwood, has recently returned to the States after serving seventeen months in the South Pa cific theatre. He was captain of a motor torpedo boat. Lieutenant Reynolds is now attending motor torpedo boat squadron training school in Rhode Island. Pvt. James W. Whitesidcs, '42A, has been assigned to the radio school, A.A.F. Training Command, Truax Field, Madison, Wis. for training as a radio mechanic. George E. Mew, Jr., '46Ed., has recently been promoted to the rank of corporal in the Marine Corps. He is with the Fourth Marine Di vision in the Pacific area. Lt. Harold C. Clinge, '43A, of Orangeburg. has been promoted to the rank of first lieutenant. He is a P-4: Thunderbolt fighter pilot, base< with the 15th Army Air Force in Italy. Lieutenant Clinge has been awarded the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf clusters. Prior to enlist ing in the Army Air Forces in January, 1942, he was a draftsman for the State Highway Department of South Carolina. Sgt. William C.
